- Genesis 30:14
וַיֵּלֶךְ רְאוּבֵן בִּימֵי קְצִיר־חִטִּים וַיִּמְצָא דוּדָאִים בַּשָּׂדֶה וַיָּבֵא אֹתָם אֶל־לֵאָה אִמּוֹ וַתֹּאמֶר רָחֵל אֶל־לֵאָה תְּנִי־נָא לִי מִדּוּדָאֵי בְּנֵךְ׃
Once, at the time of the wheat harvest, Reuben came upon some mandrakes in the field and brought them to his mother Leah. Rachel said to Leah, “Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.”
Targum Onkelos
וַאֲזַל רְאוּבֵן בְּיוֹמֵי חֲצַד חִטִּין וְאַשְׁכַּח יַבְרוּחִין בְּחַקְלָא וְאַיְתִי יָתְהוֹן לְלֵאָה אִמֵּיהּ וַאֲמַרַת רָחֵל לְלֵאָה הַבִי כְעַן לִי מִיַּבְרוּחֵי דִּבְרִיךְ׃
Reuvein went in the days of the wheat harvest, and found jasmine flowers in the field. He brought them to Leah, his mother. Rochel said to Leah, Please [Now] give me some of your son’s jasmine flowers.
- Genesis 30:15
וַתֹּאמֶר לָהּ הַמְעַט קַחְתֵּךְ אֶת־אִישִׁי וְלָקַחַת גַּם אֶת־דּוּדָאֵי בְּנִי וַתֹּאמֶר רָחֵל לָכֵן יִשְׁכַּב עִמָּךְ הַלַּיְלָה תַּחַת דּוּדָאֵי בְנֵךְ׃
But she said to her, “Was it not enough for you to take away my husband, that you would also take my son’s mandrakes?” Rachel replied, “I promise, he shall lie with you tonight, in return for your son’s mandrakes.”
Targum Onkelos
וַאֲמַרַת לַהּ הַזְעֵיר דִּדְבַרְתְּ יָת בַּעְלִי וְתִסְּבִין אַף יָת יַבְרוּחֵי דִּבְרִי וַאֲמַרַת רָחֵל בְּכֵין יִשְׁכּוֹב עִמִּיךְ בְּלֵילְיָא חֲלָף יַבְרוּחֵי דִּבְרִיךְ׃
She [Leah] said to her, Isn’t it enough that you took my husband? Would you also take my son’s jasmine flowers? Rochel said, Therefore, he shall be with you tonight in exchange for your son’s jasmine flowers.
- Genesis 30:16
וַיָּבֹא יַעֲקֹב מִן־הַשָּׂדֶה בָּעֶרֶב וַתֵּצֵא לֵאָה לִקְרָאתוֹ וַתֹּאמֶר אֵלַי תָּבוֹא כִּי שָׂכֹר שְׂכַרְתִּיךָ בְּדוּדָאֵי בְּנִי וַיִּשְׁכַּב עִמָּהּ בַּלַּיְלָה הוּא׃
When Jacob came home from the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him and said, “You are to sleep with me, for I have hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” And he lay with her that night.
Targum Onkelos
וְעָאל יַעֲקֹב מִן חַקְלָא בְּרַמְשָׁא וּנְפַקַת לֵאָה לְקַדָּמוּתֵיהּ וַאֲמַרַת לְוָתִי תֵיעוֹל אֲרֵי מֵיגָר אֲגַרְתָּךְ בְּיַבְרוּחֵי דִּבְרִי וּשְׁכֵיב עִמַּהּ בְּלֵילְיָא הוּא׃
Yaakov came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him. She said, You will come to me, for I have hired you with my son’s jasmine flowers, and he was with her at night.
- Genesis 30:17
וַיִּשְׁמַע אֱלֹהִים אֶל־לֵאָה וַתַּהַר וַתֵּלֶד לְיַעֲקֹב בֵּן חֲמִישִׁי׃
God heeded Leah, and she conceived and bore him a fifth son.
Targum Onkelos
וְקַבֵּיל יְיָ צְלוֹתַהּ דְּלֵאָה וְעַדִּיאַת וִילֵידַת לְיַעֲקֹב בַּר חֲמִישָׁאי׃
Elohim perceived [accepted] Leah’s [wish] [prayer]. She conceived and bore [her] fifth son to Yaakov.
- Genesis 30:18
וַתֹּאמֶר לֵאָה נָתַן אֱלֹהִים שְׂכָרִי אֲשֶׁר־נָתַתִּי שִׁפְחָתִי לְאִישִׁי וַתִּקְרָא שְׁמוֹ יִשָּׂשכָר׃
And Leah said, “God has given me my reward for having given my maid to my husband.” So she named him Issachar.
Targum Onkelos
וַאֲמַרַת לֵאָה יְהַב יְיָ אַגְרִי דִּיהַבִית אַמְתִּי לְבַעְלִי וּקְרָת שְׁמֵיהּ יִשָּׂשכָר׃
Leah said, Elohim has given me my reward because I gave my handmaid to my husband. She named him Yissachar.
- Genesis 30:19
וַתַּהַר עוֹד לֵאָה וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן־שִׁשִּׁי לְיַעֲקֹב׃
When Leah conceived again and bore Jacob a sixth son,
Targum Onkelos
וְעַדִּיאַת עוֹד לֵאָה וִילֵידַת בַּר שְׁתִיתַאי לְיַעֲקֹב׃
Leah conceived again and bore [her] sixth son to Yaakov.
- Genesis 30:20
וַתֹּאמֶר לֵאָה זְבָדַנִי אֱלֹהִים ׀ אֹתִי זֵבֶד טוֹב הַפַּעַם יִזְבְּלֵנִי אִישִׁי כִּי־יָלַדְתִּי לוֹ שִׁשָּׁה בָנִים וַתִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמוֹ זְבֻלוּן׃
Leah said, “God has given me a choice gift; this time my husband will exalt me, for I have borne him six sons.” So she named him Zebulun.
Targum Onkelos
וַאֲמַרַת לֵאָה יְהַב יְיָ יָתֵיהּ לִי חוּלָק טָב הָדָא זִמְנָא יְהֵי מְדוֹרֵיהּ דְּבַעְלִי לְוָתִי אֲרֵי יְלֵידִית לֵיהּ שִׁתָּא בְנִין וּקְרָת יָת שְׁמֵיהּ זְבוּלוּן׃
Leah said, Elohim has given [me] a goodly portion. Now my husband will make his [main] home with me, for I have borne him six sons. She named him Zevulun.
- Genesis 30:21
וְאַחַר יָלְדָה בַּת וַתִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמָהּ דִּינָה׃
Last, she bore him a daughter, and named her Dinah.
Targum Onkelos
וּבָתַר כֵּין יְלֵידַת בְּרַתָּא וּקְרָת יָת שְׁמַהּ דִּינָה׃
Afterwards she gave birth to a daughter, and named her Deenah.
- Genesis 30:22
וַיִּזְכֹּר אֱלֹהִים אֶת־רָחֵל וַיִּשְׁמַע אֵלֶיהָ אֱלֹהִים וַיִּפְתַּח אֶת־רַחְמָהּ׃
Now God remembered Rachel; God heeded her and opened her womb.
Targum Onkelos
וְעָאל דּוּכְרָנַהּ דְּרָחֵל קֳדָם יְיָ וְקַבֵּיל צְלוֹתַהּ יְיָ וִיהַב לַהּ עִדּוּי׃
Elohim remembered Rochel [The remembrance of Rochel came before Elohim, and Elohim perceived her plight] [accepted her prayer] and opened her womb [allowed her to conceive].
- Genesis 30:23
וַתַּהַר וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן וַתֹּאמֶר אָסַף אֱלֹהִים אֶת־חֶרְפָּתִי׃
She conceived and bore a son, and said, “God has taken away my disgrace.”
Targum Onkelos
וְעַדִּיאַת וִילֵידַת בַּר וַאֲמַרַת כְּנַשׁ יְיָ יָת חִסְדָּי׃
She conceived and gave birth to a son. She said, Elohim has removed my shame.
- Genesis 30:24
וַתִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמוֹ יוֹסֵף לֵאמֹר יֹסֵף יְהֹוָה לִי בֵּן אַחֵר׃
So she named him Joseph, that is to say, “May GOD add another son for me.”
Targum Onkelos
וּקְרָת יָת שְׁמֵיהּ יוֹסֵף לְמֵימַר יוֹסֵיף יְיָ לִי בַּר אָחֳרָן׃
She named him Yoseif, saying, May Adonoy add to me another son.
- Genesis 30:25
וַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר יָלְדָה רָחֵל אֶת־יוֹסֵף וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב אֶל־לָבָן שַׁלְּחֵנִי וְאֵלְכָה אֶל־מְקוֹמִי וּלְאַרְצִי׃
After Rachel had borne Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, “Give me leave to go back to my own homeland.
Targum Onkelos
וַהֲוָה כַּד יְלֵידַת רָחֵל יָת יוֹסֵף וַאֲמַר יַעֲקֹב לְלָבָן שַׁלְּחַנִי וַאֲהָךְ לְאַתְרִי וּלְאַרְעִי׃
When Rochel had given birth to Yoseif, Yaakov said to Lavan, Send me on my way, and I will go to my own place and to my homeland.
- Genesis 30:26
תְּנָה אֶת־נָשַׁי וְאֶת־יְלָדַי אֲשֶׁר עָבַדְתִּי אֹתְךָ בָּהֵן וְאֵלֵכָה כִּי אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ אֶת־עֲבֹדָתִי אֲשֶׁר עֲבַדְתִּיךָ׃
Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served you, that I may go; for well you know what services I have rendered you.”
Targum Onkelos
הַב יָת נְשַׁי וְיָת בְּנַי דִּפְלַחִית יָתָךְ בְּהוֹן וְאֵיזֵיל אֲרֵי אַתְּ יְדַעְתְּ יָת פּוּלְחָנִי דִּפְלַחְתָּךְ׃
Give me [permission to take] my wives and my children, for whom I worked for you, and I will go; for you know my work that I did for you.
- Genesis 30:27
וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו לָבָן אִם־נָא מָצָאתִי חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ נִחַשְׁתִּי וַיְבָרְכֵנִי יְהֹוָה בִּגְלָלֶךָ׃
But Laban said to him, “If you will indulge me, I have learned by divination that GOD has blessed me on your account.”
Targum Onkelos
וַאֲמַר לֵיהּ לָבָן אִם כְּעַן אַשְׁכַּחִית רַחֲמִין בְּעֵינָךְ נַסִּיתִי וּבָרְכַנִי יְיָ בְּדִילָךְ׃
Lavan said to him, If [now] I have found favor in your eyes, I have divined [determined] that Adonoy has blessed me because of you.
