- Numbers 3:40
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהֹוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה פְּקֹד כׇּל־בְּכֹר זָכָר לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִבֶּן־חֹדֶשׁ וָמָעְלָה וְשָׂא אֵת מִסְפַּר שְׁמֹתָם׃
GOD said to Moses: Record every first-born male of the Israelite people from the age of one month up, and make a list of their names;
Targum Onkelos
וַאֲמַר יְיָ לְמֹשֶׁה מְנִי כָּל בְּכוֹרַיָּא דְּכוּרַיָּא לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִבַּר יַרְחָא וּלְעֵילָא וְקַבֵּיל יָת חוּשְׁבַּן שְׁמָהָתְהוֹן׃
Adonoy said to Moshe: Count every male firstborn of Bnei Yisroel from the age of one month and above and take the number of their names.
- Numbers 3:41
וְלָקַחְתָּ אֶת־הַלְוִיִּם לִי אֲנִי יְהֹוָה תַּחַת כׇּל־בְּכֹר בִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאֵת בֶּהֱמַת הַלְוִיִּם תַּחַת כׇּל־בְּכוֹר בְּבֶהֱמַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃
and take the Levites for Me, GOD, in place of every such first-born among the Israelite people, and the cattle of the Levites in place of every male first-born among the cattle of the Israelites.
Targum Onkelos
וּתְקָרֵיב יָת לֵיוָאֵי קֳדָמַי אֲנָא יְיָ חֲלָף כָּל בּוּכְרָא בִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְיָת בְּעִירָא דְּלֵיוָאֵי חֲלָף כָּל בּוּכְרָא בִּבְעִירָא דִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃
You shall take the Levites for [before] Me, I, [who am] Adonoy, instead of every firstborn of Bnei Yisroel; and the animals of the Levites instead of every firstborn among the animals of Bnei Yisroel.
- Numbers 3:42
וַיִּפְקֹד מֹשֶׁה כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהֹוָה אֹתוֹ אֶת־כׇּל־בְּכוֹר בִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃
So Moses recorded all the first-born among the Israelites, as GOD had commanded him.
Targum Onkelos
וּמְנָא מֹשֶׁה כְּמָא דְּפַקֵּיד יְיָ יָתֵיהּ יָת כָּל בּוּכְרָא בִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃
Moshe counted just as Adonoy commanded him to, every firstborn of Bnei Yisroel.
- Numbers 3:43
וַיְהִי כׇל־בְּכוֹר זָכָר בְּמִסְפַּר שֵׁמֹת מִבֶּן־חֹדֶשׁ וָמַעְלָה לִפְקֻדֵיהֶם שְׁנַיִם וְעֶשְׂרִים אֶלֶף שְׁלֹשָׁה וְשִׁבְעִים וּמָאתָיִם׃
All the first-born males as listed by name, recorded from the age of one month up, came to 22,273.
Targum Onkelos
וַהֲווֹ כָּל בְּכוֹרַיָּא דְּכוּרַיָּא בְּמִנְיַן שְׁמָהָן מִבַּר יַרְחָא וּלְעֵילָא לְמִנְיָנֵיהוֹן עֶשְׂרִין וּתְרֵין אַלְפִין וּמָאתַן וְשִׁבְעִין וּתְלָתָא׃
Every male firstborn according to the number of names of one month and above according to their numbers, was twenty-two thousand two hundred and seventy-three.
- Numbers 3:44
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהֹוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃
GOD spoke to Moses, saying:
Targum Onkelos
וּמַלֵּיל יְיָ עִם מֹשֶׁה לְמֵימַר׃
Adonoy spoke to Moshe, saying:
- Numbers 3:45
קַח אֶת־הַלְוִיִּם תַּחַת כׇּל־בְּכוֹר בִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאֶת־בֶּהֱמַת הַלְוִיִּם תַּחַת בְּהֶמְתָּם וְהָיוּ־לִי הַלְוִיִּם אֲנִי יְהֹוָה׃
Take the Levites in place of all the male first-born among the Israelite people, and the cattle of the Levites in place of their cattle; and the Levites shall be Mine, GOD’s.
Targum Onkelos
קָרֵיב יָת לֵיוָאֵי חֲלָף כָּל בּוּכְרָא בִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְיָת בְּעִירָא דְּלֵיוָאֵי חֲלָף בְּעִירְהוֹן וִיהוֹן מְשַׁמְּשִׁין קֳדָמַי לֵיוָאֵי אֲנָא יְיָ׃
Take the Levites instead of every firstborn of Bnei Yisroel, and the animals of the Levites instead of their animals, and the Levites shall [serve before Me] be Mine, I am Adonoy.
- Numbers 3:46
וְאֵת פְּדוּיֵי הַשְּׁלֹשָׁה וְהַשִּׁבְעִים וְהַמָּאתָיִם הָעֹדְפִים עַל־הַלְוִיִּם מִבְּכוֹר בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃
And as the redemption price of the 273 Israelite first-born over and above the number of the Levites,
Targum Onkelos
וְיָת פּוּרְקַן מָאתַן וְשִׁבְעִין וּתְלָתָא דְּיַתִּירִין עַל לֵיוָאֵי מִבְּכוֹרַיָּא דִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃
And the redemption of the two hundred and seventy-three that are in excess of the number of Levites from the firstborns of Bnei Yisroel.
- Numbers 3:47
וְלָקַחְתָּ חֲמֵשֶׁת חֲמֵשֶׁת שְׁקָלִים לַגֻּלְגֹּלֶת בְּשֶׁקֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ תִּקָּח עֶשְׂרִים גֵּרָה הַשָּׁקֶל׃
take five shekels per head—take this by the sanctuary weight, twenty gerahs to the shekel—
Targum Onkelos
וְתִסַּב חֲמֵישׁ חֲמֵישׁ סִלְעִין לְגֻלְגֻּלְתָּא בְּסִלְעֵי קוּדְשָׁא תִּסַּב עֶשְׂרִין מָעִין סִלְעָא׃
You shall take five shekolim apiece from each individual; you shall take it in holy shekolim at twenty gerah for each shekel.
- Numbers 3:48
וְנָתַתָּה הַכֶּסֶף לְאַהֲרֹן וּלְבָנָיו פְּדוּיֵי הָעֹדְפִים בָּהֶם׃
and give the money to Aaron and his sons as the redemption price for those who are in excess.
Targum Onkelos
וְתִתֵּין כַּסְפָּא לְאַהֲרֹן וְלִבְנוֹהִי פּוּרְקַן דְּיַתִּירִין בְּהוֹן׃
You shall give the money to Aharon and to his sons as a redemption for those whose numbers are in excess [of the Levites.]
- Numbers 3:49
וַיִּקַּח מֹשֶׁה אֵת כֶּסֶף הַפִּדְיוֹם מֵאֵת הָעֹדְפִים עַל פְּדוּיֵי הַלְוִיִּם׃
So Moses took the redemption money from those over and above the ones redeemed by the Levites;
Targum Onkelos
וּנְסֵיב מֹשֶׁה יָת כְּסַף פּוּרְקָנְהוֹן מִן דְּיַתִּירִין עַל פְּרִיקֵי לֵיוָאֵי׃
Moshe took the redemption money from those whose numbers were in excess of those who were redeemed through the Levites.
- Numbers 3:50
מֵאֵת בְּכוֹר בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לָקַח אֶת־הַכָּסֶף חֲמִשָּׁה וְשִׁשִּׁים וּשְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת וָאֶלֶף בְּשֶׁקֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ׃
he took the money from the male first-born of the Israelites, 1,365 sanctuary shekels.
Targum Onkelos
מִן בְּכוֹרַיָּא דִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל נְסֵיב יָת כַּסְפָּא אֶלֶף וּתְלָת מְאָה וְשִׁתִּין וַחֲמֵישׁ סִלְעִין בְּסִלְעֵי קוּדְשָׁא׃
From the firstborn of Bnei Yisroel, he took the money. One thousand three hundred sixty-five, in holy shekel.
- Numbers 3:51
וַיִּתֵּן מֹשֶׁה אֶת־כֶּסֶף הַפְּדֻיִם לְאַהֲרֹן וּלְבָנָיו עַל־פִּי יְהֹוָה כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהֹוָה אֶת־מֹשֶׁה׃
And Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons at GOD’s bidding, as GOD had commanded Moses.
Targum Onkelos
וִיהַב מֹשֶׁה יָת כְּסַף פְּרִיקַיָּא לְאַהֲרֹן וְלִבְנוֹהִי עַל מֵימְרָא דַּייָ כְּמָא דְּפַקֵּיד יְיָ יָת מֹשֶׁה׃
Moshe gave the money of those who were redeemed to Aharon and to his sons according to the word of Adonoy, just as Adonoy commanded to Moshe.
