- Numbers 3:14
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהֹוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה בְּמִדְבַּר סִינַי לֵאמֹר׃
GOD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying:
Targum Onkelos
וּמַלֵּיל יְיָ עִם מֹשֶׁה בְּמַדְבְּרָא דְּסִינַי לְמֵימַר׃
Adonoy spoke to Moshe in the Sinai desert, saying;
- Numbers 3:15
פְּקֹד אֶת־בְּנֵי לֵוִי לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם כׇּל־זָכָר מִבֶּן־חֹדֶשׁ וָמַעְלָה תִּפְקְדֵם׃
Record the descendants of Levi by ancestral house and by clan; record every male among them from the age of one month up.
Targum Onkelos
מְנִי יָת בְּנֵי לֵוִי לְבֵית אֲבָהָתְהוֹן לְזַרְעֲיָתְהוֹן כָּל דְּכוּרָא מִבַּר יַרְחָא וּלְעֵילָא תִּמְנֵינוּן׃
Count the sons of Levi according to their fathers’ houses according to their families. All males from the age of one month and above, you shall count them.
- Numbers 3:16
וַיִּפְקֹד אֹתָם מֹשֶׁה עַל־פִּי יְהֹוָה כַּאֲשֶׁר צֻוָּה׃
So Moses recorded them at GOD’s command, as he was bidden.
Targum Onkelos
וּמְנָא יָתְהוֹן מֹשֶׁה עַל מֵימְרָא דַּייָ כְּמָא דְּאִתְפַּקַּד׃
Moshe counted them according to the word of Adonoy, just as he was commanded.
- Numbers 3:17
וַיִּהְיוּ־אֵלֶּה בְנֵי־לֵוִי בִּשְׁמֹתָם גֵּרְשׁוֹן וּקְהָת וּמְרָרִי׃
These were the sons of Levi by name: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
Targum Onkelos
וַהֲווֹ אִלֵּין בְּנֵי לֵוִי בִּשְׁמָהָתְהוֹן גֵּרְשׁוֹן וּקְהָת וּמְרָרִי׃
These were sons of Levi according to their names, Gershon, Kehos and Merori.
- Numbers 3:18
וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹת בְּנֵי־גֵרְשׁוֹן לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם לִבְנִי וְשִׁמְעִי׃
These were the names of the sons of Gershon by clan: Libni and Shimei.
Targum Onkelos
וְאִלֵּין שְׁמָהָת בְּנֵי גֵּרְשׁוֹן לְזַרְעֲיָתְהוֹן לִבְנִי וְשִׁמְעִי׃
These are the names of Gershon’s sons according to their families; Livni and Shim’i.

וּבְנֵי קְהָת לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם עַמְרָם וְיִצְהָר חֶבְרוֹן וְעֻזִּיאֵל׃
The sons of Kohath by clan: Amram and Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel.
Targum Onkelos
וּבְנֵי קְהָת לְזַרְעֲיָתְהוֹן עַמְרָם וְיִצְהָר חֶבְרוֹן וְעֻזִּיאֵל׃
The sons of Kehos, according to their families were; Amram, Yitzhar Chevron and Uziel.

וּבְנֵי מְרָרִי לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם מַחְלִי וּמוּשִׁי אֵלֶּה הֵם מִשְׁפְּחֹת הַלֵּוִי לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם׃
The sons of Merari by clan: Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of the Levites within their ancestral houses:

וּבְנֵי מְרָרִי לְזַרְעֲיָתְהוֹן מַחְלִי וּמוּשִׁי אִלֵּין אִנּוּן זַרְעֲיָת לֵוִי לְבֵית אֲבָהָתְהוֹן׃
The sons of Merori, according to their families were; Machli and Mushi. These are the families of Levi according to their fathers’ houses.

לְגֵרְשׁוֹן מִשְׁפַּחַת הַלִּבְנִי וּמִשְׁפַּחַת הַשִּׁמְעִי אֵלֶּה הֵם מִשְׁפְּחֹת הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּי׃
To Gershon belonged the clan of the Libnites and the clan of the Shimeites; those were the clans of the Gershonites.
Targum Onkelos
לְגֵרְשׁוֹן זַרְעִית לִבְנִי וְזַרְעִית שִׁמְעִי אִלֵּין אִנּוּן זַרְעֲיָת גֵּרְשׁוֹן׃
Of Gershon, the family of Livni and the family of Shim’i. These are the families of the Gershonites.

פְּקֻדֵיהֶם בְּמִסְפַּר כׇּל־זָכָר מִבֶּן־חֹדֶשׁ וָמָעְלָה פְּקֻדֵיהֶם שִׁבְעַת אֲלָפִים וַחֲמֵשׁ מֵאוֹת׃
The recorded entries of all their males from the age of one month up, as recorded, came to 7,500.

מִנְיָנֵיהוֹן בְּמִנְיַן כָּל דְּכוּרָא מִבַּר יַרְחָא וּלְעֵילָא מִנְיָנֵיהוֹן שִׁבְעָא אַלְפִין וַחֲמֵישׁ מְאָה׃
Their numbers, in a count of every male of one month and above; their numbers are seven thousand five hundred.
- Numbers 3:23
מִשְׁפְּחֹת הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּי אַחֲרֵי הַמִּשְׁכָּן יַחֲנוּ יָמָּה׃
The clans of the Gershonites were to camp behind the Tabernacle, to the west.
Targum Onkelos
זַרְעֲיָת גֵּרְשׁוֹן אֲחוֹרֵי מַשְׁכְּנָא יִשְׁרוֹן מַעְרְבָא׃
The families of the Gershonites shall camp behind the Mishkon on the west side.
- Numbers 3:24
וּנְשִׂיא בֵית־אָב לַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּי אֶלְיָסָף בֶּן־לָאֵל׃
The chieftain of the ancestral house of the Gershonites was Eliasaph son of Lael.
Targum Onkelos
וְרַב בֵּית בָּא לְבֵית גֵּרְשׁוֹן אֶלְיָסָף בַּר לָאֵל׃
The leader of the household of the Gershonites is Elyasaf the son of Lael.

וּמִשְׁמֶרֶת בְּנֵי־גֵרְשׁוֹן בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד הַמִּשְׁכָּן וְהָאֹהֶל מִכְסֵהוּ וּמָסַךְ פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד׃
The duties of the Gershonites in the Tent of Meeting comprised: the tabernacle, the tent, its covering, and the screen for the entrance of the Tent of Meeting;

וּמַטְּרַת בְּנֵי גֵּרְשׁוֹן בְּמַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא מַשְׁכְּנָא וּפְרָסָא חוּפָאֵיהּ וּפְרָסָא דִּתְרַע מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא׃
The guardianship of the sons of Gershon in the Tent of Meeting [was]; the Mishkon and the Tent, its cover and the Curtain for the entrance of the Tent of Meeting,

וְקַלְעֵי הֶחָצֵר וְאֶת־מָסַךְ פֶּתַח הֶחָצֵר אֲשֶׁר עַל־הַמִּשְׁכָּן וְעַל־הַמִּזְבֵּחַ סָבִיב וְאֵת מֵיתָרָיו לְכֹל עֲבֹדָתוֹ׃
the hangings of the enclosure, the screen for the entrance of the enclosure that surrounds the Tabernacle, the cords thereof, and the altar—all the service connected with these.
Targum Onkelos
וּסְרָדֵי דָּרְתָא וְיָת פְּרָסָא דִּתְרַע דָּרְתָא דְּעַל מַשְׁכְּנָא וְעַל מַדְבְּחָא סְחוֹר סְחוֹר וְיָת אֲטוּנוֹהִי לְכֹל פּוּלְחָנֵיהּ׃
The hanging Curtains of the courtyard and the Curtain at the entrance of the courtyard which is around the Mishkon and Altar, and its ropes, for all of the work involving these things [its service].

וְלִקְהָת מִשְׁפַּחַת הַעַמְרָמִי וּמִשְׁפַּחַת הַיִּצְהָרִי וּמִשְׁפַּחַת הַחֶבְרֹנִי וּמִשְׁפַּחַת הָעׇזִּיאֵלִי אֵלֶּה הֵם מִשְׁפְּחֹת הַקְּהָתִי׃
To Kohath belonged the clan of the Amramites, the clan of the Izharites, the clan of the Hebronites, and the clan of the Uzzielites; those were the clans of the Kohathites.
Targum Onkelos
וְלִקְהָת זַרְעִית עַמְרָם וְזַרְעִית יִצְהָר וְזַרְעִית חֶבְרוֹן וְזַרְעִית עֻזִּיאֵל אִלֵּין אִנּוּן זַרְעֲיָת קְהָת׃
Of Kehos, was the family of Amram, the family of Yitzhar, the family of Chevron and the family of Uziel, these are the families of the Kehosites.
- Numbers 3:28
בְּמִסְפַּר כׇּל־זָכָר מִבֶּן־חֹדֶשׁ וָמָעְלָה שְׁמֹנַת אֲלָפִים וְשֵׁשׁ מֵאוֹת שֹׁמְרֵי מִשְׁמֶרֶת הַקֹּדֶשׁ׃
All the listed males from the age of one month up came to 8,600, attending to the duties of the sanctuary.
Targum Onkelos
בְּמִנְיַן כָּל דְּכוּרָא מִבַּר יַרְחָא וּלְעֵילָא תְּמָנְיָא אַלְפִין וְשֵׁית מְאָה נָטְרֵי מַטַּרְתָּא דְּקוּדְשָׁא׃
The number of every male from one month and above is eight thousand six hundred. [They were] the guardians of the sacred vessels.
- Numbers 3:29
מִשְׁפְּחֹת בְּנֵי־קְהָת יַחֲנוּ עַל יֶרֶךְ הַמִּשְׁכָּן תֵּימָנָה׃
The clans of the Kohathites were to camp along the south side of the Tabernacle.
Targum Onkelos
זַרְעֲיָת בְּנֵי קְהָת יִשְׁרוֹן עַל שִׁדָּא דְּמַשְׁכְּנָא דָּרוֹמָא׃
The families of the children of Kehos shall camp on the south side of the Mishkon.
- Numbers 3:30
וּנְשִׂיא בֵית־אָב לְמִשְׁפְּחֹת הַקְּהָתִי אֱלִיצָפָן בֶּן־עֻזִּיאֵל׃
The chieftain of the ancestral house of the Kohathite clans was Elizaphan son of Uzziel.
Targum Onkelos
וְרַב בֵּית בָּא לְזַרְעֲיָת קְהָת אֱלִיצָפָן בַּר עֻזִּיאֵל׃
The leader of the household of the families of the Kehosites, is Elitzafan the son of Uziel.
- Numbers 3:31
וּמִשְׁמַרְתָּם הָאָרֹן וְהַשֻּׁלְחָן וְהַמְּנֹרָה וְהַמִּזְבְּחֹת וּכְלֵי הַקֹּדֶשׁ אֲשֶׁר יְשָׁרְתוּ בָּהֶם וְהַמָּסָךְ וְכֹל עֲבֹדָתוֹ׃
Their duties comprised: the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, and the sacred utensils that were used with them, and the screen—all the service connected with these.
Targum Onkelos
וּמַטַּרְתְּהוֹן אֲרוֹנָא וּפָתוּרָא וּמְנָרְתָא וּמַדְבְּחַיָּא וּמָנֵי קוּדְשָׁא דִּישַׁמְּשׁוּן בְּהוֹן וּפְרָסָא וְכֹל פּוּלְחָנֵיהּ׃
Their guardianship is the Ark, the Table, the Menorah, the Altars and the sacred utensils with which they serve. And the Curtain, and all of the work involving these things.
- Numbers 3:32
וּנְשִׂיא נְשִׂיאֵי הַלֵּוִי אֶלְעָזָר בֶּן־אַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן פְּקֻדַּת שֹׁמְרֵי מִשְׁמֶרֶת הַקֹּדֶשׁ׃
The head chieftain of the Levites was Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, in charge of those attending to the duties of the sanctuary.
Targum Onkelos
וְאַמַּרְכְּלָא דִּמְמֻנַּא עַל רַבְרְבֵי לֵיוָאֵי אֶלְעָזָר בַּר אַהֲרֹן כָּהֲנָא מִתְּחוֹת יְדוֹהִי מְמוּנַּן נָטְרֵי מַטַּרְתָּא דְּקוּדְשָׁא׃
The leader of the leaders of Levi shall be Elazar, the son of Aharon, the kohein [who is] in charge of the appointment of the guardians to safeguard the holy [Sanctuary].
- Numbers 3:33
לִמְרָרִי מִשְׁפַּחַת הַמַּחְלִי וּמִשְׁפַּחַת הַמּוּשִׁי אֵלֶּה הֵם מִשְׁפְּחֹת מְרָרִי׃
To Merari belonged the clan of the Mahlites and the clan of the Mushites; those were the clans of Merari.
Targum Onkelos
לִמְרָרִי זַרְעִית מַחְלִי וְזַרְעִית מוּשִׁי אִלֵּין אִנּוּן זַרְעֲיָת מְרָרִי׃
Of Merori, was the family of Machli and the family and Mushi; these are the families of the Merorites.

וּפְקֻדֵיהֶם בְּמִסְפַּר כׇּל־זָכָר מִבֶּן־חֹדֶשׁ וָמָעְלָה שֵׁשֶׁת אֲלָפִים וּמָאתָיִם׃
The recorded entries of all their males from the age of one month up came to 6,200.

Their numbers, in a count of every male of one month and above, is six thousand two hundred.

וּנְשִׂיא בֵית־אָב לְמִשְׁפְּחֹת מְרָרִי צוּרִיאֵל בֶּן־אֲבִיחָיִל עַל יֶרֶךְ הַמִּשְׁכָּן יַחֲנוּ צָפֹנָה׃
The chieftain of the ancestral house of the clans of Merari was Zuriel son of Abihail. They were to camp along the north side of the Tabernacle.
Targum Onkelos
וְרַב בֵּית בָּא לְזַרְעֲיָת מְרָרִי צוּרִיאֵל בַּר אֲבִיחָיִל עַל שִׁדָּא דְּמַשְׁכְּנָא יִשְׁרוֹן צִפּוּנָא׃
The leader of the household of the families of the Merorites is Tzuriel the son of Avichail, they shall camp on the north side of the Mishkon.

וּפְקֻדַּת מִשְׁמֶרֶת בְּנֵי מְרָרִי קַרְשֵׁי הַמִּשְׁכָּן וּבְרִיחָיו וְעַמֻּדָיו וַאֲדָנָיו וְכׇל־כֵּלָיו וְכֹל עֲבֹדָתוֹ׃
The assigned duties of the Merarites comprised: the planks of the Tabernacle, its bars, posts, and sockets, and all its furnishings—all the service connected with these;
Targum Onkelos
וְדִמְסִיר לְמִטַּר לִבְנֵי מְרָרִי דַּפֵּי מַשְׁכְּנָא וְעָבְרוֹהִי וְעַמּוּדוֹהִי וְסָמְכוֹהִי וְכָל מָנוֹהִי וְכֹל פּוּלְחָנֵיהּ׃
The appointed task of the guardianship of the sons of Merori shall be the beams of the Mishkon, its bars, pillars and sockets; all of its utensils, and all of the work involving these things [its service].

וְעַמֻּדֵי הֶחָצֵר סָבִיב וְאַדְנֵיהֶם וִיתֵדֹתָם וּמֵיתְרֵיהֶם׃
also the posts around the enclosure and their sockets, pegs, and cords.
Targum Onkelos
וְעַמּוּדֵי דָּרְתָא סְחוֹר סְחוֹר וְסָמְכֵיהוֹן וְסִכֵּיהוֹן וַאֲטוּנֵיהוֹן׃
Also the pillars of the surrounding courtyard and their sockets, pegs and ropes.
- Numbers 3:38
וְהַחֹנִים לִפְנֵי הַמִּשְׁכָּן קֵדְמָה לִפְנֵי אֹהֶל־מוֹעֵד ׀ מִזְרָחָה מֹשֶׁה ׀ וְאַהֲרֹן וּבָנָיו שֹׁמְרִים מִשְׁמֶרֶת הַמִּקְדָּשׁ לְמִשְׁמֶרֶת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְהַזָּר הַקָּרֵב יוּמָת׃
Those who were to camp before the Tabernacle, in front—before the Tent of Meeting, on the east—were Moses and Aaron and his sons, attending to the duties of the sanctuary, as a duty on behalf of the Israelites; and any outsider who encroached was to be put to death.
Targum Onkelos
וְדִשְׁרַן קֳדָם מַשְׁכְּנָא קִדּוּמָא קֳדָם מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא מַדְנְחָא מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן וּבְנוֹהִי נָטְרִין מַטַּרְתָּא דְּקוּדְשָׂא לְמַטְּרַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְחִילוֹנַי דְּיִקְרַב יִתְקְטִיל׃
Those who camped in front of the Mishkon in the forefront, in front of the Tent of Meeting on the east side [are]; Moshe, Aharon and his sons, guardians of the guardianship of the Sanctuary to guard on behalf of Bnei Yisroel. Any outsider (non-kohein) who comes near, shall be put to death.
- Numbers 3:39
כׇּל־פְּקוּדֵי הַלְוִיִּם אֲשֶׁר פָּקַד מֹשֶׁה וְׄאַׄהֲׄרֹׄןׄ עַל־פִּי יְהֹוָה לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם כׇּל־זָכָר מִבֶּן־חֹדֶשׁ וָמַעְלָה שְׁנַיִם וְעֶשְׂרִים אָלֶף׃
All the Levites who were recorded, whom at GOD’s command Moses and Aaron recorded by their clans, all the males from the age of one month up, came to 22,000.
Targum Onkelos
כָּל מִנְיָנֵי לֵיוָאֵי דִּמְנָא מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן עַל מֵימְרָא דַּייָ לְזַרְעֲיָתְהוֹן כָּל דְּכוּרָא מִבַּר יַרְחָא וּלְעֵילָא עֶשְׂרִין וּתְרֵין אַלְפִין׃
The number of all the Levites whom Moshe and Aharon counted at the word of Adonoy according to their families; every male from one month and above was twenty-two thousand.
