  1. Deuteronomy 5:19

GOD spoke those words—those and no more—to your whole congregation at the mountain, with a mighty voice out of the fire and the dense clouds. After inscribing them on two tablets of stone, [God] gave them to me.

    Targum Onkelos

These words did Adonoy address to your entire assemblage at the mountain from within the fire, the cloud, and the thick cloud—a voice great and without cessation. He wrote them on two tablets of stone, and He gave them to me.

  2. Deuteronomy 5:20

When you heard the voice out of the darkness, while the mountain was ablaze with fire, you came up to me, all your tribal heads and elders,

    Targum Onkelos

When you heard the voice from within the darkness, as the mountain burned with fire, you approached me—all the leaders of your tribes and your elders.

  3. Deuteronomy 5:21

and said, “The ETERNAL our God has just shown us a majestic Presence, and we have heard God’s voice out of the fire; we have seen this day that humankind may live though addressed by God.

    Targum Onkelos

You said, ‘‘Look! Adonoy, our God, showed us His glory and His greatness, and His voice [of His word] we heard from within the fire; today we saw that God can address man and he will survive.

  4. Deuteronomy 5:22

Let us not die, then, for this fearsome fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of the ETERNAL our God any longer, we shall die.

    Targum Onkelos

Now, why should we die when this great fire will consume us? If we continue to hear the [word of His] voice of Adonoy, our God, any longer we will die.

  5. Deuteronomy 5:23

For what mortal ever heard the voice of the living God speak out of the fire, as we did, and lived?

    Targum Onkelos

For who of all flesh has heard the voice of the [word of the] living God speaking from within the fire like us, and survived?

  6. Deuteronomy 5:24

You go closer and hear all that the ETERNAL our God says, and then you tell us everything that the ETERNAL our God tells you, and we will willingly do it.”

    Targum Onkelos

Approach—yourself—and listen to everything that Adonoy, our God, says; and you will tell us everything that Adonoy, our God, tells you and we will accept and fulfill.

  7. Deuteronomy 5:25

GOD heard the plea that you made to me, and GOD said to me, “I have heard the plea that this people made to you; they did well to speak thus.

    Targum Onkelos

[Before] Adonoy [was] heard the intent of your words when you spoke to me; and Adonoy said to me, ‘‘[Before Me] I have heard the intent of this people’s words that they spoke to you—everything they said is excellent[correct].

  8. Deuteronomy 5:26

May they always be of such mind, to revere Me and follow all My commandments, that it may go well with them and with their children forever!

    Targum Onkelos

I wish they would retain their present attitude to fear Me and to preserve all My commandments always; so that they and their children benefit forever.

  9. Deuteronomy 5:27

Go, say to them, ‘Return to your tents.’

    Targum Onkelos

Go say to them, ‘Return for yourselves to your tents.’

  10. Deuteronomy 5:28

But you remain here with Me, and I will give you the whole Instruction—the laws and the rules—that you shall impart to them, for them to observe in the land that I am giving them to possess.”

    Targum Onkelos

You, however, remain here with [before] Me, and I will tell you all the mitzvohs and the statutes and the laws that you will teach them; and they will fulfill [them] in the land that I am giving them to inherit.’’

  11. Deuteronomy 5:29

Be careful, then, to do as the ETERNAL your God has commanded you. Do not turn aside to the right or to the left:

    Targum Onkelos

You will be careful to fulfill as Adonoy, your God, has commanded you; do not deviate right or left.

  12. Deuteronomy 5:30

    Targum Onkelos

  14. Deuteronomy 6:2

so that you, your children, and your children’s children may revere the ETERNAL your God and follow, as long as you live, all the laws and commandments that I enjoin upon you, to the end that you may long endure.

    Targum Onkelos

  15. Deuteronomy 6:3

    Targum Onkelos
