- Exodus 28:13
וְעָשִׂיתָ מִשְׁבְּצֹת זָהָב׃
Then make frames of gold
Targum Onkelos
וְתַעֲבֵיד מְרַמְּצָן דִּדְהַב׃
Make gold settings,
- Exodus 28:14
וּשְׁתֵּי שַׁרְשְׁרֹת זָהָב טָהוֹר מִגְבָּלֹת תַּעֲשֶׂה אֹתָם מַעֲשֵׂה עֲבֹת וְנָתַתָּה אֶת־שַׁרְשְׁרֹת הָעֲבֹתֹת עַל־הַמִּשְׁבְּצֹת׃
and two chains of pure gold; braid these like corded work, and fasten the corded chains to the frames.
Targum Onkelos
וְתַרְתֵּין תִּכִּין דִּדְהַב דְּכֵי מְתַחֲמָן תַּעֲבֵיד יָתְהוֹן עוֹבָד גְּדִילוּ וְתִתֵּין יָת תִּכַּיָּא גְּדִילָתָא עַל מְרַמְּצָתָא׃
and two chains of pure gold, you will make them for the ends, a braided work. and you will fasten the braided chain’s to the settings.

וְעָשִׂיתָ חֹשֶׁן מִשְׁפָּט מַעֲשֵׂה חֹשֵׁב כְּמַעֲשֵׂה אֵפֹד תַּעֲשֶׂנּוּ זָהָב תְּכֵלֶת וְאַרְגָּמָן וְתוֹלַעַת שָׁנִי וְשֵׁשׁ מׇשְׁזָר תַּעֲשֶׂה אֹתוֹ׃
You shall make a breastpiece of decision, worked into a design; make it in the style of the ephod: make it of gold, of blue, purple, and crimson yarns, and of fine twisted linen.
Targum Onkelos
וְתַעֲבֵיד חֹשֶׁן דִּינָא עוֹבָד אוּמָּן כְּעוֹבָד אֵיפוֹדָא תַּעְבְּדִנֵּיהּ דַּהְבָּא תַּכְלָא וְאַרְגְּוָנָא וּצְבַע זְהוֹרִי וּבוּץ שְׁזִיר תַּעֲבֵיד יָתֵיהּ׃
Make a breastplate of judgment, the work of a craftsman. Make it in the same manner you made the eiphod. [Out of] gold, greenish-blue wool, dark red wool, crimson [colored] wool and fine twined linen, shall you make it.

רָבוּעַ יִהְיֶה כָּפוּל זֶרֶת אׇרְכּוֹ וְזֶרֶת רׇחְבּוֹ׃
It shall be square and doubled, a span in length and a span in width.
Targum Onkelos
מְרוּבַּע יְהֵי עִיף זַרְתָּא אוּרְכֵּיהּ וְזַרְתָּא פוּתְיֵיהּ׃
It shall be a doubled square, a span in its length and a span in its width.

וּמִלֵּאתָ בוֹ מִלֻּאַת אֶבֶן אַרְבָּעָה טוּרִים אָבֶן טוּר אֹדֶם פִּטְדָה וּבָרֶקֶת הַטּוּר הָאֶחָד׃
Set in it mounted stones, in four rows of stones. The first row shall be a row of carnelian, chrysolite, and emerald;
Targum Onkelos
וְתַשְׁלֵים בֵּיהּ אַשְׁלָמוּת אַבְנָא אַרְבְּעָא סִדְרִין דְּאֶבֶן טָבָא סִדְרָא קַדְמָאָה סָמְקָן יָרְקָן וּבָרְקָן סִדְרָא חַד׃
Fill it [the breastplate settings] with fillings of [mounted] stones. Their shall be four rows of [precious] stones: [The first row:] An odem [ruby], pitda [topaz], and a barekes [emerald], [shall be placed on] the first row [one].

וְהַטּוּר הַשֵּׁנִי נֹפֶךְ סַפִּיר וְיָהֲלֹם׃
the second row: a turquoise, a sapphire, and an amethyst;
Targum Onkelos
וְסִדְרָא תִּנְיָנָא אִזְמַרַגְדִּין שַׁבְזֵיז וְסַבְהֲלוֹם׃
The second row: nofech [carbuncle], sapphire, and yahalom [diamond].
- Exodus 28:19
וְהַטּוּר הַשְּׁלִישִׁי לֶשֶׁם שְׁבוֹ וְאַחְלָמָה׃
the third row: a jacinth, an agate, and a crystal;
Targum Onkelos
וְסִדְרָא תְּלִיתָאָה קַנְכֵּירִי טְרַקְיָא וְעֵין עִגְלָא׃
The third row: leshem [opal], shevo [agate], and achlomo [amethyst].
- Exodus 28:20
וְהַטּוּר הָרְבִיעִי תַּרְשִׁישׁ וְשֹׁהַם וְיָשְׁפֵה מְשֻׁבָּצִים זָהָב יִהְיוּ בְּמִלּוּאֹתָם׃
and the fourth row: a beryl, a lapis lazuli, and a jasper. They shall be framed with gold in their mountings.
Targum Onkelos
וְסִדְרָא רְבִיעָאָה כְּרוּם יַמָּא וּבוּרְלָא וּפַנְתֵּירִי מְרַמְּצָן בִּדְהַב יְהוֹן בְּאַשְׁלָמוּתְהוֹן׃
The fourth row: tarshish [chrysolite], shoham [onyx], and yoshfei [jasper]. [These stones] shall be placed in gold settings in their fullness.
- Exodus 28:21
וְהָאֲבָנִים תִּהְיֶיןָ עַל־שְׁמֹת בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵה עַל־שְׁמֹתָם פִּתּוּחֵי חוֹתָם אִישׁ עַל־שְׁמוֹ תִּהְיֶיןָ לִשְׁנֵי עָשָׂר שָׁבֶט׃
The stones shall correspond [in number] to the names of the sons of Israel: twelve, corresponding to their names. They shall be engraved like seals, each with its name, for the twelve tribes.
Targum Onkelos
וְאַבְנַיָּא יִהְוְיָן עַל שְׁמָהָת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל תַּרְתַּא עֶשְׂרֵי עַל שְׁמָהָתְהוֹן כְּתָב מְפָרַשׁ כִּגְלָף דְּעִזְקָא גְּבַר עַל שְׁמֵיהּ יִהְוְיָן לִתְרֵי עֲשַׂר שִׁבְטִין׃
These stones shall have on them the names of the B’nei Yisrael, twelve of them by their names, each one’s name [written in script that is clear like they engrave a signet ring] engraved as on a signet [ring], representing the twelve tribes.

וְעָשִׂיתָ עַל־הַחֹשֶׁן שַׁרְשֹׁת גַּבְלֻת מַעֲשֵׂה עֲבֹת זָהָב טָהוֹר׃
On the breastpiece make braided chains of corded work in pure gold.
Targum Onkelos
וְתַעֲבֵיד עַל חוּשְׁנָא תִּכִּין מְתַחֲמָן עוֹבָד גְּדִילוּ דִּדְהַב דְּכֵי׃
Make [two] twisted end-chains for the breastplate, braided work of pure gold.
- Exodus 28:23
וְעָשִׂיתָ עַל־הַחֹשֶׁן שְׁתֵּי טַבְּעוֹת זָהָב וְנָתַתָּ אֶת־שְׁתֵּי הַטַּבָּעוֹת עַל־שְׁנֵי קְצוֹת הַחֹשֶׁן׃
Make two rings of gold on the breastpiece, and fasten the two rings at the two ends of the breastpiece,
Targum Onkelos
וְתַעֲבֵיד עַל חוּשְׁנָא תַּרְתֵּין עִזְקָן דִּדְהַב וְתִתֵּין יָת תַּרְתֵּין עִזְקָתָא עַל תְּרֵין סִטְרֵי חוּשְׁנָא׃
Make two gold ring’s for the breastplate, and set the two rings on the two [upper] corners [sides] for the breastplate.

וְנָתַתָּה אֶת־שְׁתֵּי עֲבֹתֹת הַזָּהָב עַל־שְׁתֵּי הַטַּבָּעֹת אֶל־קְצוֹת הַחֹשֶׁן׃
attaching the two golden cords to the two rings at the ends of the breastpiece.
Targum Onkelos
וְתִתֵּין יָת תַּרְתֵּין גְּדִילָן דִּדְהַב עַל תַּרְתֵּין עִזְקָתָא בְּסִטְרֵי חוּשְׁנָא׃
Place [attach] the two gold-braided chains on the two rings, at the corners [sides] of the breastplate.
- Exodus 28:25
וְאֵת שְׁתֵּי קְצוֹת שְׁתֵּי הָעֲבֹתֹת תִּתֵּן עַל־שְׁתֵּי הַמִּשְׁבְּצוֹת וְנָתַתָּה עַל־כִּתְפוֹת הָאֵפֹד אֶל־מוּל פָּנָיו׃
Then fasten the two ends of the cords to the two frames, which you shall attach to the shoulder-pieces of the ephod, at the front.
Targum Onkelos
וְיָת תַּרְתֵּין גְּדִילָן דְּעַל תְּרֵין סִטְרוֹהִי תִּתֵּין עַל תַּרְתֵּין מְרַמְּצָתָא וְתִתֵּין עַל כִּתְפֵי אֵיפוֹדָא לָקֳבֵיל אַפּוֹהִי׃
The two ends of the two braided chains [which are on its two sides], you shall place [attach] to the two settings, and place them on the shoulder straps of the eiphod toward its face.
- Exodus 28:26
וְעָשִׂיתָ שְׁתֵּי טַבְּעוֹת זָהָב וְשַׂמְתָּ אֹתָם עַל־שְׁנֵי קְצוֹת הַחֹשֶׁן עַל־שְׂפָתוֹ אֲשֶׁר אֶל־עֵבֶר הָאֵפֹד בָּיְתָה׃
Make two rings of gold and attach them to the two ends of the breastpiece, at its inner edge, which faces the ephod.
Targum Onkelos
וְתַעֲבֵיד תַּרְתֵּין עִזְקָן דִּדְהַב וּתְשַׁוֵּי יָתְהוֹן עַל תְּרֵין סִטְרֵי חוּשְׁנָא עַל סִפְתֵּיהּ דִּלְעִבְרָא דְּאֵיפוֹדָא לְגָיו׃
Make two gold rings and set them on the two [lower] corners [sides] of the breastplate, on its edge that is on the inner side of the eiphod.
- Exodus 28:27
וְעָשִׂיתָ שְׁתֵּי טַבְּעוֹת זָהָב וְנָתַתָּה אֹתָם עַל־שְׁתֵּי כִתְפוֹת הָאֵפוֹד מִלְּמַטָּה מִמּוּל פָּנָיו לְעֻמַּת מַחְבַּרְתּוֹ מִמַּעַל לְחֵשֶׁב הָאֵפוֹד׃
And make two other rings of gold and fasten them on the front of the ephod, low on the two shoulder-pieces, close to its seam above the decorated band.
Targum Onkelos
וְתַעֲבֵיד תַּרְתֵּין עִזְקָן דִּדְהַב וְתִתֵּין יָתְהוֹן עַל תְּרֵין כִּתְפֵי אֵיפוֹדָא מִלְּרַע מִלָּקֳבֵיל אַפּוֹהִי לָקֳבֵיל בֵּית לוֹפִי מֵעִלָּוֵי לְהִמְיַן אֵיפוֹדָא׃
Make two gold rings and place them on the two shoulder straps of the eiphod, on the bottom, toward its face, a gainst where they are joined, above the eiphod’s belt.
- Exodus 28:28
וְיִרְכְּסוּ אֶת־הַחֹשֶׁן מִטַּבְּעֹתָו אֶל־טַבְּעֹת הָאֵפוֹד בִּפְתִיל תְּכֵלֶת לִהְיוֹת עַל־חֵשֶׁב הָאֵפוֹד וְלֹא־יִזַּח הַחֹשֶׁן מֵעַל הָאֵפוֹד׃
The breastpiece shall be held in place by a cord of blue from its rings to the rings of the ephod, so that the breastpiece rests on the decorated band and does not come loose from the ephod.
Targum Onkelos
וְיַחֲדוּן יָת חוּשְׁנָא מֵעִזְקָתֵיהּ לְעִזְקָת אֵיפוֹדָא בְּחוּטָא דִּתְכִילְתָא לְמִהְוֵי עַל הִמְיַן אֵיפוֹדָא וְלָא יִתְפָּרַק חוּשְׁנָא מֵעִלָּוֵי אֵיפוֹדָא׃
They shall bind the [lower] rings of the breastplate to the [lower] rings of the eiphod with a cord of greenish-blue wool, so that it [the breastplate] remains against the eiphod’s belt, so that the breastplate does not move from the eiphod.
- Exodus 28:29
וְנָשָׂא אַהֲרֹן אֶת־שְׁמוֹת בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּחֹשֶׁן הַמִּשְׁפָּט עַל־לִבּוֹ בְּבֹאוֹ אֶל־הַקֹּדֶשׁ לְזִכָּרֹן לִפְנֵי־יְהֹוָה תָּמִיד׃
Aaron shall carry the names of the sons of Israel on the breastpiece of decision over his heart, when he enters the sanctuary, for remembrance before GOD at all times.
Targum Onkelos
וְיִטּוֹל אַהֲרֹן יָת שְׁמָהָת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּחֹשֶׁן דִּינָא עַל לִבֵּיהּ בְּמֵיעֲלֵיהּ לְקוּדְשָׁא לְדוּכְרָנָא קֳדָם יְיָ תְּדִירָא׃
Aharon will thus carry the names of the B’nei Yisrael on the breastplate of judgment, over his heart, when he comes into the Holy [sanctuary], as a constant remembrance before Adonoy.
- Exodus 28:30
וְנָתַתָּ אֶל־חֹשֶׁן הַמִּשְׁפָּט אֶת־הָאוּרִים וְאֶת־הַתֻּמִּים וְהָיוּ עַל־לֵב אַהֲרֹן בְּבֹאוֹ לִפְנֵי יְהֹוָה וְנָשָׂא אַהֲרֹן אֶת־מִשְׁפַּט בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל עַל־לִבּוֹ לִפְנֵי יְהֹוָה תָּמִיד׃
Inside the breastpiece of decision you shall place the Urim and Thummim, so that they are over Aaron’s heart when he comes before GOD. Thus Aaron shall carry the instrument of decision for the Israelites over his heart before GOD at all times.
Targum Onkelos
וְתִתֵּין בְּחֹשֶׁן דִּינָא יָת אוּרַיָּא וְיָת תּוּמַּיָּא וִיהוֹן עַל לִבָּא דְּאַהֲרֹן בְּמֵיעֲלֵיהּ לִקְדָם יְיָ וְיִטּוֹל אַהֲרֹן יָת דִּין בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל עַל לִבֵּיהּ קֳדָם יְיָ תְּדִירָא׃
Place in the breastplate the Urim and Tumim, and they will be over Aharon’s heart when he comes before Adonoy. Aharon will carry the judgment of the B’nei Yisrael over his heart, before Adonoy always.
