- Numbers 26:52
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהֹוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃
GOD spoke to Moses, saying,
Targum Onkelos
וּמַלֵּיל יְיָ עִם מֹשֶׁה לְמֵימַר׃
Adonoy spoke to Moshe saying.
- Numbers 26:53
לָאֵלֶּה תֵּחָלֵק הָאָרֶץ בְּנַחֲלָה בְּמִסְפַּר שֵׁמוֹת׃
“Among these shall the land be apportioned as shares, according to the listed names:
Targum Onkelos
לְאִלֵּין תִּתְפְּלֵיג אַרְעָא בְּאַחְסָנָא בְּמִנְיַן שְׁמָהָן׃
“The land shall be apportioned among these, as an inheritance according to the number of names.
- Numbers 26:54
לָרַב תַּרְבֶּה נַחֲלָתוֹ וְלַמְעַט תַּמְעִיט נַחֲלָתוֹ אִישׁ לְפִי פְקֻדָיו יֻתַּן נַחֲלָתוֹ׃
with larger groups increase the share, with smaller groups reduce the share. Each is to be assigned its share according to its enrollment.
Targum Onkelos
לְסַגִּיאֵי תַּסְגּוֹן אַחְסָנַתְהוֹן וְלִזְעֵירֵי תַּזְעֲרוּן אַחְסָנַתְהוֹן גְּבַר לְפוֹם מִנְיָנוֹהִי תִּתְיְהֵיב אַחְסָנְתֵיהּ׃
To the large [tribe], increase their inheritance, and to the small, diminish their inheritance; each person, according to his number, shall be given his inheritance.

אַךְ־בְּגוֹרָל יֵחָלֵק אֶת־הָאָרֶץ לִשְׁמוֹת מַטּוֹת־אֲבֹתָם יִנְחָלוּ׃
The land, moreover, is to be apportioned by lot; and the allotment shall be made according to the listings of their ancestral tribes.
Targum Onkelos
בְּרַם בְּעַדְבָּא תִּתְפְּלֵיג אַרְעָא לִשְׁמָהָת שִׁבְטֵי אֲבָהָתְהוֹן יַחְסְנוּן׃
Only by lot should the land be divided, according to the names of their fathers’ tribes should they inherit it.
- Numbers 26:56
עַל־פִּי הַגּוֹרָל תֵּחָלֵק נַחֲלָתוֹ בֵּין רַב לִמְעָט׃
Each portion shall be assigned by lot, whether for larger or smaller groups.”
Targum Onkelos
עַל פּוֹם עַדְבָּא תִּתְפְּלֵיג אַחְסָנַתְהוֹן בֵּין סַגִּיאֵי לִזְעֵירֵי׃
By word of the lottery should their inheritance be divided, with regard to whether they are many or few.”

וְאֵלֶּה פְקוּדֵי הַלֵּוִי לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם לְגֵרְשׁוֹן מִשְׁפַּחַת הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּי לִקְהָת מִשְׁפַּחַת הַקְּהָתִי לִמְרָרִי מִשְׁפַּחַת הַמְּרָרִי׃
This is the enrollment of the Levites by their clans: Of Gershon, the clan of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the clan of the Kohathites; of Merari, the clan of the Merarites.
Targum Onkelos
וְאִלֵּין מִנְיָנֵי לֵיוָאֵי לְזַרְעֲיָתְהוֹן לְגֵרְשׁוֹן זַרְעִית גֵּרְשׁוֹן לִקְהָת זַרְעִית קְהָת לִמְרָרִי זַרְעִית מְרָרִי׃
These are the numbered ones of the Levites by their families: The Gershonite family of Gershon, the Kehosite family of Kehos, [and] the Merorite family of Merori.

אֵלֶּה ׀ מִשְׁפְּחֹת לֵוִי מִשְׁפַּחַת הַלִּבְנִי מִשְׁפַּחַת הַחֶבְרֹנִי מִשְׁפַּחַת הַמַּחְלִי מִשְׁפַּחַת הַמּוּשִׁי מִשְׁפַּחַת הַקׇּרְחִי וּקְהָת הוֹלִד אֶת־עַמְרָם׃
These are the clans of Levi: The clan of the Libnites, the clan of the Hebronites, the clan of the Mahlites, the clan of the Mushites, the clan of the Korahites.—Kohath begot Amram.
Targum Onkelos
אִלֵּין זַרְעֲיָת לֵוִי זַרְעִית לִבְנִי זַרְעִית חֶבְרוֹן זַרְעִית מַחְלִי זַרְעִית מוּשִׁי זַרְעִית קֹרַח וּקְהָת אוֹלֵיד יָת עַמְרָם׃
These are the families of Levi: the Livnite family, the Chevronite family, the Machlite family, the Mushite family, and the Korchite family; Kehos’ son was Amram.

וְשֵׁם ׀ אֵשֶׁת עַמְרָם יוֹכֶבֶד בַּת־לֵוִי אֲשֶׁר יָלְדָה אֹתָהּ לְלֵוִי בְּמִצְרָיִם וַתֵּלֶד לְעַמְרָם אֶת־אַהֲרֹן וְאֶת־מֹשֶׁה וְאֵת מִרְיָם אֲחֹתָם׃
The name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in Egypt; she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses and their sister Miriam.

וְשׁוֹם אִתַּת עַמְרָם יוֹכֶבֶד בַּת לֵוִי דִּילֵידַת יָתַהּ לְלֵוִי בְּמִצְרָיִם וִילֵידַת לְעַמְרָם יָת אַהֲרֹן וְיָת מֹשֶׁה וְיָת מִרְיָם אֲחָתְהוֹן׃
The name of Amram’s wife was Yocheved, daughter of Levi, whom [her mother] bore to Levi in Egypt. She bore to Amram, Aharon, Moshe, and their sister Miriam.

וַיִּוָּלֵד לְאַהֲרֹן אֶת־נָדָב וְאֶת־אֲבִיהוּא אֶת־אֶלְעָזָר וְאֶת־אִיתָמָר׃
To Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
Targum Onkelos
וְאִתְיְלֵיד לְאַהֲרֹן יָת נָדָב וְיָת אֲבִיהוּא יָת אֶלְעָזָר וְיָת אִיתָמָר׃
To Aharon were borne, Nadav and Avihu, Elozor and Isamar.

וַיָּמׇת נָדָב וַאֲבִיהוּא בְּהַקְרִיבָם אֵשׁ־זָרָה לִפְנֵי יְהֹוָה׃
Nadab and Abihu died when they offered alien fire before GOD.—
Targum Onkelos
וּמִית נָדָב וַאֲבִיהוּא בְּקָרוֹבֵיהוֹן אִישָׁתָא נוּכְרֵיתָא קֳדָם יְיָ׃
Nadav and Avihu died when they offered a forbidden fire before Adonoy.
- Numbers 26:62
וַיִּהְיוּ פְקֻדֵיהֶם שְׁלֹשָׁה וְעֶשְׂרִים אֶלֶף כׇּל־זָכָר מִבֶּן־חֹדֶשׁ וָמָעְלָה כִּי ׀ לֹא הׇתְפָּקְדוּ בְּתוֹךְ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי לֹא־נִתַּן לָהֶם נַחֲלָה בְּתוֹךְ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃
Their enrollment of 23,000 comprised all males from a month up. They were not part of the regular enrollment of the Israelites, since no share was assigned to them among the Israelites.
Targum Onkelos
וַהֲווֹ מִנְיָנֵיהוֹן עֶשְׂרִין וּתְלָתָא אַלְפִין כָּל דְּכוּרָא מִבַּר יַרְחָא וּלְעֵילָא אֲרֵי לָא אִתְמְנִיאוּ בְּגוֹ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲרֵי לָא אִתְיְהֵיבַת לְהוֹן אַחְסָנָא בְּגוֹ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃
They numbered twenty-three thousand, for all males from one month and older. They were not counted among Bnei Yisroel, since no inheritance was given to them among Bnei Yisroel.
- Numbers 26:63
אֵלֶּה פְּקוּדֵי מֹשֶׁה וְאֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן אֲשֶׁר פָּקְדוּ אֶת־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּעַרְבֹת מוֹאָב עַל יַרְדֵּן יְרֵחוֹ׃
These are the ones enrolled by Moses and Eleazar the priest who registered the Israelites on the steppes of Moab, at the Jordan near Jericho.
Targum Onkelos
אִלֵּין מִנְיָנֵי מֹשֶׁה וְאֶלְעָזָר כָּהֲנָא דִּמְנוֹ יָת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּמֵישְׁרַיָּא דְּמוֹאָב עַל יַרְדְּנָא דִּירִיחוֹ׃
This is the census of Moshe and Elozor the kohein who counted the Bnei Yisroel in the plains of Moav, at Yardein Yereicho.

וּבְאֵלֶּה לֹא־הָיָה אִישׁ מִפְּקוּדֵי מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן אֲשֶׁר פָּקְדוּ אֶת־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּמִדְבַּר סִינָי׃
Among these there was not one of those enrolled by Moses and Aaron the priest when they recorded the Israelites in the wilderness of Sinai.
Targum Onkelos
וּבְאִלֵּין לָא הֲוָה גְּבַר מִמִּנְיָנֵי מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן כָּהֲנָא דִּמְנוֹ יָת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּמַדְבְּרָא דְּסִינָי׃
Among this [census] there was no man who had been included in the census of Moshe and Aharon the kohein, who had counted Bnei Yisroel in the wilderness of Sinai,

כִּי־אָמַר יְהֹוָה לָהֶם מוֹת יָמֻתוּ בַּמִּדְבָּר וְלֹא־נוֹתַר מֵהֶם אִישׁ כִּי אִם־כָּלֵב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּה וִיהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן־נוּן׃
For GOD had said of them, “They shall die in the wilderness.” Not one of them survived, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
Targum Onkelos
אֲרֵי אֲמַר יְיָ לְהוֹן מְמָת יְמוּתוּן בְּמַדְבְּרָא וְלָא אִשְׁתְּאַר מִנְּהוֹן אֱנָשׁ אֱלָהֵין כָּלֵב בַּר יְפוּנֶּה וִיהוֹשֻעַ בַּר נוּן׃
because Adonoy said to them that they would die in the desert. No one was left with the exception of Kaleiv, son of Yefuneh and Yehoshua, son of Nun.
- Numbers 27:1
וַתִּקְרַבְנָה בְּנוֹת צְלׇפְחָד בֶּן־חֵפֶר בֶּן־גִּלְעָד בֶּן־מָכִיר בֶּן־מְנַשֶּׁה לְמִשְׁפְּחֹת מְנַשֶּׁה בֶן־יוֹסֵף וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹת בְּנֹתָיו מַחְלָה נֹעָה וְחׇגְלָה וּמִלְכָּה וְתִרְצָה׃
The daughters of Zelophehad, of Manassite family—son of Hepher son of Gilead son of Machir son of Manasseh son of Joseph—came forward. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

וּקְרִיבָא בְּנָת צְלָפְחָד בַּר חֵפֶר בַּר גִּלְעָד בַּר מָכִיר בַּר מְנַשֶּׁה לְזַרְעֲיָת מְנַשֶּׁה בַר יוֹסֵף וְאִלֵּין שְׁמָהָת בְּנָתֵיהּ מַחְלָה נֹעָה וְחָגְלָה וּמִלְכָּה וְתִרְצָה׃
And they approached—the daughters of Tzelofchad, son of Cheifer, son of Gil’ad, son of Machir, son of Menashe, of the families of Menashe the son of Yoseif. The names of his daughters were: Machlah, No’ah, Choglah, Milkah and Sirtzah.
- Numbers 27:2
וַתַּעֲמֹדְנָה לִפְנֵי מֹשֶׁה וְלִפְנֵי אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן וְלִפְנֵי הַנְּשִׂיאִם וְכׇל־הָעֵדָה פֶּתַח אֹהֶל־מוֹעֵד לֵאמֹר׃
They stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the chieftains, and the whole assembly, at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, and they said,
Targum Onkelos
וְקָמָא קֳדָם מֹשֶׁה וּקְדָם אֶלְעָזָר כָּהֲנָא וּקְדָם רַבְרְבַיָּא וְכָל כְּנִשְׁתָּא בִּתְרַע מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא לְמֵימַר׃
They stood before Moshe and before Elozor the kohein, and before the princes, and the entire community at the Tent of Meeting entrance, saying:
- Numbers 27:3
אָבִינוּ מֵת בַּמִּדְבָּר וְהוּא לֹא־הָיָה בְּתוֹךְ הָעֵדָה הַנּוֹעָדִים עַל־יְהֹוָה בַּעֲדַת־קֹרַח כִּי־בְחֶטְאוֹ מֵת וּבָנִים לֹא־הָיוּ לוֹ׃
“Our father died in the wilderness. He was not one of the faction, Korah’s faction, that banded together against GOD, but died for his own sin; and he has left no sons.
Targum Onkelos
אֲבוּנָא מִית בְּמַדְבְּרָא וְהוּא לָא הֲוָה בְּגוֹ כְּנִשְׁתָּא דְּאִזְדָּמַנוּ עַל יְיָ בִּכְנִשְׁתָּא דְּקֹרַח אֲרֵי בְּחוֹבֵיהּ מִית וּבְנִין לָא הֲווֹ לֵיהּ׃
“Our father died in the wilderness, but he was not among the group that banded together against Adonoy, in the company of Korach, but he died because of his own sin without leaving any sons.
- Numbers 27:4
לָמָּה יִגָּרַע שֵׁם־אָבִינוּ מִתּוֹךְ מִשְׁפַּחְתּוֹ כִּי אֵין לוֹ בֵּן תְּנָה־לָּנוּ אֲחֻזָּה בְּתוֹךְ אֲחֵי אָבִינוּ׃
Let not our father’s name be lost to his clan just because he had no son! Give us a holding among our father’s kinsmen!”
Targum Onkelos
לְמָא יִתְמְנַע שְׁמָא דַּאֲבוּנָא מִגּוֹ זַרְעִיתֵיהּ אֲרֵי לֵית לֵיהּ בַּר הַב לַנָא אַחְסָנָא בְּגוֹ אֲחֵי אֲבוּנָא׃
Why should the name of our father be omitted [held back] from his family because he did not have a son? Give us a possession [of land] among our father’s brothers.”
- Numbers 27:5
וַיַּקְרֵב מֹשֶׁה אֶת־מִשְׁפָּטָן לִפְנֵי יְהֹוָה׃
Moses brought their case before GOD.
Targum Onkelos
וְקָרֵיב מֹשֶׁה יָת דִּינְהוֹן לִקְדָם יְיָ׃
Moshe brought their case before Adonoy.
