- Leviticus 14:33
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהֹוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה וְאֶל־אַהֲרֹן לֵאמֹר׃
GOD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:
Targum Onkelos
וּמַלֵּיל יְיָ עִם מֹשֶׁה וּלְאַהֲרֹן לְמֵימַר׃
Adonoy spoke to Moshe and to Aharon, saying:
- Leviticus 14:34
כִּי תָבֹאוּ אֶל־אֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי נֹתֵן לָכֶם לַאֲחֻזָּה וְנָתַתִּי נֶגַע צָרַעַת בְּבֵית אֶרֶץ אֲחֻזַּתְכֶם׃
When you enter the land of Canaan that I give you as a possession, and I inflict an eruptive plague upon a house in the land you possess,
Targum Onkelos
אֲרֵי תֵיעֲלוּן לְאַרְעָא דִּכְנַעַן דַּאֲנָא יָהֵיב לְכוֹן לְאַחְסָנָא וְאֶתֵּין מַכְתָּשׁ סְגִירוּ בְּבֵית אֲרַע אַחְסָנַתְכוֹן׃
When you will come into the land of Canaan that I will give to you for a possession, and I shall put the eruption of tzoraas [’confinement’] in the house of the land of your possession.
- Leviticus 14:35
וּבָא אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ הַבַּיִת וְהִגִּיד לַכֹּהֵן לֵאמֹר כְּנֶגַע נִרְאָה לִי בַּבָּיִת׃
the owner of the house shall come and tell the priest, saying, “Something like a plague has appeared upon my house.”
Targum Onkelos
וְיֵיתֵי דְּדִילֵיהּ בֵּיתָא וִיחַוֵּי לְכָהֲנָא לְמֵימַר כְּמַכְתָּשָׁא אִתַּחְזִי לִי בְּבֵיתָא׃
Whoevers house it is, shall come and tell to the kohein, saying, Something like an eruption has appeared to me in the house.
- Leviticus 14:36
וְצִוָּה הַכֹּהֵן וּפִנּוּ אֶת־הַבַּיִת בְּטֶרֶם יָבֹא הַכֹּהֵן לִרְאוֹת אֶת־הַנֶּגַע וְלֹא יִטְמָא כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר בַּבָּיִת וְאַחַר כֵּן יָבֹא הַכֹּהֵן לִרְאוֹת אֶת־הַבָּיִת׃
The priest shall order the house cleared before the priest enters to examine the plague, so that nothing in the house may become impure; after that the priest shall enter to examine the house.
Targum Onkelos
וִיפַקֵּיד כָּהֲנָא וִיפַנּוֹן יָת בֵּיתָא עַד לָא יֵיעוֹל כָּהֲנָא לְמִחְזֵי יָת מַכְתָּשָׁא וְלָא יִסְתָּאַב כָּל דִּבְבֵּיתָא וּבָתַר כֵּן יֵיעוֹל כָּהֲנָא לְמִחְזֵי יָת בֵּיתָא׃
The kohein shall command, and they shall empty the house [of its contents] before the kohein will come to see the eruption so everything in the house shall not become impure. Afterwards, the kohein shall come to see the house.
- Leviticus 14:37
וְרָאָה אֶת־הַנֶּגַע וְהִנֵּה הַנֶּגַע בְּקִירֹת הַבַּיִת שְׁקַעֲרוּרֹת יְרַקְרַקֹּת אוֹ אֲדַמְדַּמֹּת וּמַרְאֵיהֶן שָׁפָל מִן־הַקִּיר׃
If, when he examines the plague, the plague in the walls of the house is found to consist of greenish or reddish streaks that appear to go deep into the wall,
Targum Onkelos
וְיִחְזֵי יָת מַכְתָּשָׁא וְהָא מַכְתָּשָׁא בְּכוּתְלֵי בֵיתָא פַּחְתִּין יָרְקָן אוֹ סָמְקָן וּמִחְזֵיהוֹן מַכִּיךְ מִן כּוּתְלָא׃
He shall see the eruption and behold! The eruption is in the walls of the house; impressions, of greenest green or of reddest red [green or red] and they appear to be lower than the [surface of] the wall.
- Leviticus 14:38
וְיָצָא הַכֹּהֵן מִן־הַבַּיִת אֶל־פֶּתַח הַבָּיִת וְהִסְגִּיר אֶת־הַבַּיִת שִׁבְעַת יָמִים׃
the priest shall come out of the house to the entrance of the house, and close up the house for seven days.
Targum Onkelos
וְיִפּוֹק כָּהֲנָא מִן בֵּיתָא לִתְרַע בֵּיתָא וְיַסְגַּר יָת בֵּיתָא שִׁבְעָא יוֹמִין׃
The kohein shall go out of the house to the entrance of the house, and place the house under quarantine for seven days.
- Leviticus 14:39
וְשָׁב הַכֹּהֵן בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי וְרָאָה וְהִנֵּה פָּשָׂה הַנֶּגַע בְּקִירֹת הַבָּיִת׃
On the seventh day the priest shall return. If he sees that the plague has spread on the walls of the house,
Targum Onkelos
וִיתוּב כָּהֲנָא בְּיוֹמָא שְׁבִיעָאָה וְיִחְזֵי וְהָא אוֹסֵיף מַכְתָּשָׁא בְּכוּתְלֵי בֵיתָא׃
The kohein shall return on the seventh day and shall see; and behold! the eruption has spread [increased] in the walls of the house.
- Leviticus 14:40
וְצִוָּה הַכֹּהֵן וְחִלְּצוּ אֶת־הָאֲבָנִים אֲשֶׁר בָּהֵן הַנָּגַע וְהִשְׁלִיכוּ אֶתְהֶן אֶל־מִחוּץ לָעִיר אֶל־מָקוֹם טָמֵא׃
the priest shall order the stones with the plague in them to be pulled out and cast outside the city into an impure place.
Targum Onkelos
וִיפַקֵּיד כָּהֲנָא וִישַׁלְּפוּן יָת אַבְנַיָּא דִּבְהוֹן מַכְתָּשָׁא וְיִרְמוֹן יָתְהוֹן לְמִבַּרָא לְקַרְתָּא לַאֲתַר מְסָאַב׃
The kohein shall command and they shall remove the stones in which there is the eruption and cast them away, beyond the city to an impure place.
- Leviticus 14:41
וְאֶת־הַבַּיִת יַקְצִעַ מִבַּיִת סָבִיב וְשָׁפְכוּ אֶת־הֶעָפָר אֲשֶׁר הִקְצוּ אֶל־מִחוּץ לָעִיר אֶל־מָקוֹם טָמֵא׃
The house shall be scraped inside all around, and the coating that is scraped off shall be dumped outside the city in an impure place.
Targum Onkelos
וְיָת בֵּיתָא יְקַלְּפוּן מִגָּיו סְחוֹר סְחוֹר וְיִרְמוֹן יָת עַפְרָא דְּקַלִּיפוּ לְמִבַּרָא לְקַרְתָּא לַאֲתַר מְסָאַב׃
He shall scrape the house from the inside, all around, and they shall throw away the earth that they scraped, beyond the city, to an impure place.
- Leviticus 14:42
וְלָקְחוּ אֲבָנִים אֲחֵרוֹת וְהֵבִיאוּ אֶל־תַּחַת הָאֲבָנִים וְעָפָר אַחֵר יִקַּח וְטָח אֶת־הַבָּיִת׃
They shall take other stones and replace those stones with them, and take other coating and plaster the house.
Targum Onkelos
וְיִסְּבוּן אַבְנִין אָחֳרָנִין וְיַעֲלוּן בַּאֲתַר אַבְנַיָּא וַעֲפַר אָחֳרָן יִסַּב וִישׁוּעַ יָת בֵּיתָא׃
They shall take other stones, and they shall bring them to replace the stones, and he shall take other earth and plaster the house.
- Leviticus 14:43
וְאִם־יָשׁוּב הַנֶּגַע וּפָרַח בַּבַּיִת אַחַר חִלֵּץ אֶת־הָאֲבָנִים וְאַחֲרֵי הִקְצוֹת אֶת־הַבַּיִת וְאַחֲרֵי הִטּוֹחַ׃
If the plague again breaks out in the house, after the stones have been pulled out and after the house has been scraped and replastered,
Targum Onkelos
וְאִם יְתוּב מַכְתָּשָׁא וְיִסְגֵּי בְּבֵיתָא בָּתַר דְּשַׁלִּיפוּ יָת אַבְנַיָּא וּבָתַר דְּקַלִּיפוּ יָת בֵּיתָא וּבָתַר דְּאִתְּשָׁע׃
If the eruption returns and sprouts in the house after the stones were removed, and after the house was scraped, and after it was plastered,
- Leviticus 14:44
וּבָא הַכֹּהֵן וְרָאָה וְהִנֵּה פָּשָׂה הַנֶּגַע בַּבָּיִת צָרַעַת מַמְאֶרֶת הִוא בַּבַּיִת טָמֵא הוּא׃
the priest shall come to examine: if the plague has spread in the house, it is a malignant eruption in the house; it is impure.
Targum Onkelos
וְיֵיעוֹל כָּהֲנָא וְיִחְזֵי וְהָא אוֹסֵיף מַכְתָּשָׁא בְּבֵיתָא סְגִירוּת מְחַסְּרָא הִיא בְּבֵיתָא מְסָאַב הוּא׃
the kohein shall come and see; and behold! the eruption has spread [increased] in the house; prickly tzoraas [’confinement’ of loss] is in the house, it is impure.
- Leviticus 14:45
וְנָתַץ אֶת־הַבַּיִת אֶת־אֲבָנָיו וְאֶת־עֵצָיו וְאֵת כׇּל־עֲפַר הַבָּיִת וְהוֹצִיא אֶל־מִחוּץ לָעִיר אֶל־מָקוֹם טָמֵא׃
The house shall be torn down—its stones and timber and all the coating on the house—and taken to an impure place outside the city.
Targum Onkelos
וִיתָרַע יָת בֵּיתָא יָת אַבְנוֹהִי וְיָת אָעוֹהִי וְיָת כָּל עֲפַר בֵּיתָא וְיַפֵּיק לְמִבַּרָא לְקַרְתָּא לַאֲתַר מְסָאַב׃
He shall dismantle the house; its stones and its wood and all the earth of the house. He shall take it out beyond the city, to an impure place.
- Leviticus 14:46
וְהַבָּא אֶל־הַבַּיִת כׇּל־יְמֵי הִסְגִּיר אֹתוֹ יִטְמָא עַד־הָעָרֶב׃
Whoever enters the house while it is closed up shall be impure until evening.
Targum Onkelos
וּדְיֵיעוֹל לְבֵיתָא כָּל יוֹמִין דְּיַסְגַּר יָתֵיהּ יְהֵי מְסָאַב עַד רַמְשָׁא׃
Whoever will come inside the house [during] all the days of its confinement, shall be impure until the evening.
- Leviticus 14:47
וְהַשֹּׁכֵב בַּבַּיִת יְכַבֵּס אֶת־בְּגָדָיו וְהָאֹכֵל בַּבַּיִת יְכַבֵּס אֶת־בְּגָדָיו׃
Whoever sleeps in the house must wash their clothes, and whoever eats in the house must wash their clothes.
Targum Onkelos
וּדְיִשְׁכּוֹב בְּבֵיתָא יְצַבַּע יָת לְבוּשׁוֹהִי וּדְיֵיכוֹל בְּבֵיתָא יְצַבַּע יָת לְבוּשׁוֹהִי׃
Whoever will lie down inside the house shall wash his garments. Whoever will eat inside the house shall wash his garments.
- Leviticus 14:48
וְאִם־בֹּא יָבֹא הַכֹּהֵן וְרָאָה וְהִנֵּה לֹא־פָשָׂה הַנֶּגַע בַּבַּיִת אַחֲרֵי הִטֹּחַ אֶת־הַבָּיִת וְטִהַר הַכֹּהֵן אֶת־הַבַּיִת כִּי נִרְפָּא הַנָּגַע׃
If, however, the priest comes and sees that the plague has not spread in the house after the house was replastered, the priest shall pronounce the house pure, for the plague has healed.
Targum Onkelos
וְאִם מֵיעָל יֵיעוֹל כָּהֲנָא וְיִחְזֵי וְהָא לָא אוֹסֵיף מַכְתָּשָׁא בְּבֵיתָא בָּתַר דְּאִתְּשָׁע יָת בֵּיתָא וְיִדְכֵּי כָהֲנָא יָת בֵּיתָא אֲרֵי אִתַּסִּי מַכְתָּשָׁא׃
If the kohein shall come and see; and behold! the eruption did not spread [increase] in the house after the house was plastered, the kohein shall pronounce the house [to be] pure, for the eruption has been healed.
- Leviticus 14:49
וְלָקַח לְחַטֵּא אֶת־הַבַּיִת שְׁתֵּי צִפֳּרִים וְעֵץ אֶרֶז וּשְׁנִי תוֹלַעַת וְאֵזֹב׃
To purge the house, he shall take two birds, cedar wood, crimson stuff, and hyssop.
Targum Onkelos
וְיִסַּב לְדַכָּאָה יָת בֵּיתָא תַּרְתֵּין צִפְּרִין וְאָעָא דְּאַרְזָא וּצְבַע זְהוֹרִי וְאֵיזוֹבָא׃
He shall take, to purify the house, two birds, cedar wood, crimson [colored] thread and hyssop.
- Leviticus 14:50
וְשָׁחַט אֶת־הַצִּפֹּר הָאֶחָת אֶל־כְּלִי־חֶרֶשׂ עַל־מַיִם חַיִּים׃
He shall slaughter the one bird over fresh water in an earthen vessel.
Targum Onkelos
וְיִכּוֹס יָת צִפְּרָא חֲדָא לְמָאן דַּחֲסַף עַל מֵי מַבּוּעַ׃
He shall slaughter one bird in an earthenware vessel, over running water.
- Leviticus 14:51
וְלָקַח אֶת־עֵץ־הָאֶרֶז וְאֶת־הָאֵזֹב וְאֵת ׀ שְׁנִי הַתּוֹלַעַת וְאֵת הַצִּפֹּר הַחַיָּה וְטָבַל אֹתָם בְּדַם הַצִּפֹּר הַשְּׁחוּטָה וּבַמַּיִם הַחַיִּים וְהִזָּה אֶל־הַבַּיִת שֶׁבַע פְּעָמִים׃
He shall take the cedar wood, the hyssop, the crimson stuff, and the live bird, and dip them in the blood of the slaughtered bird and the fresh water, and sprinkle on the house seven times.
Targum Onkelos
וְיִסַּב יָת אָעָא דְּאַרְזָא וְיָת אֵיזוֹבָא וְיָת צְבַע זְהוֹרִי וְיָת צִפְּרָא חַיְתָא וְיִטְבּוֹל יָתְהוֹן בִּדְמָא דְּצִפְּרָא דִּנְכִיסְתָא וּבְמֵי מַבּוּעַ וְיַדֵּי לְבֵיתָא שְׁבַע זִמְנִין׃
He shall take the cedar wood, the hyssop, the crimson [colored] thread and the live bird and immerse them in the blood of the slaughtered bird and in the running water, and sprinkle the house seven times.
- Leviticus 14:52
וְחִטֵּא אֶת־הַבַּיִת בְּדַם הַצִּפּוֹר וּבַמַּיִם הַחַיִּים וּבַצִּפֹּר הַחַיָּה וּבְעֵץ הָאֶרֶז וּבָאֵזֹב וּבִשְׁנִי הַתּוֹלָעַת׃
Having purged the house with the blood of the bird, the fresh water, the live bird, the cedar wood, the hyssop, and the crimson stuff,
Targum Onkelos
וִידַכֵּי יָת בֵּיתָא בִּדְמָא דְּצִפְּרָא וּבְמֵי מַבּוּעַ וּבְצִפְּרָא חַיְתָא וּבְאָעָא דְּאַרְזָא וּבְאֵיזוֹבָא וּבִצְבַע זְהוֹרִי׃
He shall purify the house with the blood of the bird, and with the running water, and with the live bird, the cedar wood, the hyssop and the crimson [colored] thread.
- Leviticus 14:53
וְשִׁלַּח אֶת־הַצִּפֹּר הַחַיָּה אֶל־מִחוּץ לָעִיר אֶל־פְּנֵי הַשָּׂדֶה וְכִפֶּר עַל־הַבַּיִת וְטָהֵר׃
he shall set the live bird free outside the city in the open country. Thus he shall make expiation for the house, and it shall be pure.
Targum Onkelos
וִישַׁלַּח יָת צִפְּרָא חַיְתָא לְמִבַּרָא לְקַרְתָּא לְאַפֵּי חַקְלָא וִיכַפַּר עַל בֵּיתָא וְיִדְכֵּי׃
He shall send the living bird, beyond the city into the open field, and atone for the house and it shall be purified.
