- Numbers 17:9
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהֹוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃
GOD spoke to Moses, saying,
Targum Onkelos
וּמַלֵּיל יְיָ עִם מֹשֶׁה לְמֵימַר׃
Adonoy spoke to Moshe, saying:
- Numbers 17:10
הֵרֹמּוּ מִתּוֹךְ הָעֵדָה הַזֹּאת וַאֲכַלֶּה אֹתָם כְּרָגַע וַיִּפְּלוּ עַל־פְּנֵיהֶם׃
“Remove yourselves from this community, that I may annihilate them in an instant.” They fell on their faces.
Targum Onkelos
אִתְפָּרַשׁוּ מִגּוֹ כְּנִשְׁתָּא הָדָא וַאֲשֵׁיצֵי יָתְהוֹן כְּשָׁעָה וּנְפַלוּ עַל אַפֵּיהוֹן׃
“Remove [separate] yourselves from this congregation and I shall annihalate them in an instant,” and they fell upon their faces.
- Numbers 17:11
וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל־אַהֲרֹן קַח אֶת־הַמַּחְתָּה וְתֶן־עָלֶיהָ אֵשׁ מֵעַל הַמִּזְבֵּחַ וְשִׂים קְטֹרֶת וְהוֹלֵךְ מְהֵרָה אֶל־הָעֵדָה וְכַפֵּר עֲלֵיהֶם כִּי־יָצָא הַקֶּצֶף מִלִּפְנֵי יְהֹוָה הֵחֵל הַנָּגֶף׃
Then Moses said to Aaron, “Take the fire pan, and put on it fire from the altar. Add incense and take it quickly to the community and make expiation for them. For wrath has gone forth from GOD: the plague has begun!”
Targum Onkelos
וַאֲמַר מֹשֶׁה לְאַהֲרֹן סַב יָת מַחְתִּיתָא וְהַב עֲלַהּ אִישָׁתָא מֵעִלָּוֵי מַדְבְּחָא וְשַׁו קְטוֹרֶת בּוּסְמִין וְאוֹבֵיל בִּפְרִיעַ לִכְנִשְׁתָּא וְכַפַּר עֲלֵיהוֹן אֲרֵי נְפַק רוּגְזָא מִן קֳדָם יְיָ שָׁרִי מוֹתָנָא׃
Moshe said to Aharon: “Take the firepan and put fire from atop the altar on it and place [fragrant] incense on it, and go quickly to the congregation and atone for them, for anger has come forth from before Adonoy; the plague has commenced.”
- Numbers 17:12
וַיִּקַּח אַהֲרֹן כַּאֲשֶׁר ׀ דִּבֶּר מֹשֶׁה וַיָּרׇץ אֶל־תּוֹךְ הַקָּהָל וְהִנֵּה הֵחֵל הַנֶּגֶף בָּעָם וַיִּתֵּן אֶת־הַקְּטֹרֶת וַיְכַפֵּר עַל־הָעָם׃
Aaron took it, as Moses had ordered, and ran to the midst of the congregation, where the plague had begun among the people. He put on the incense and made expiation for the people;
Targum Onkelos
וּנְסֵיב אַהֲרֹן כְּמָא דְּמַלֵּיל מֹשֶׁה וּרְהַט לְגוֹ קְהָלָא וְהָא שָׁרִי מוֹתָנָא בְּעַמָּא וִיהַב יָת קְטוֹרֶת בּוּסְמַיָּא וְכַפַּר עַל עַמָּא׃
Aharon took, just as Moshe spoke, and he ran to the middle of the assembly and behold! The plague had commenced among the people. He put on incense and he atoned for the people.
- Numbers 17:13
וַיַּעֲמֹד בֵּין־הַמֵּתִים וּבֵין הַחַיִּים וַתֵּעָצַר הַמַּגֵּפָה׃
he stood between the dead and the living until the plague was checked.
Targum Onkelos
וְקָם בֵּין מִיתַיָּא וּבֵין חַיַּיָּא וְאִתְכְּלִי מוֹתָנָא׃
He stood between the dead and between the living and the plague was halted [ceased].
- Numbers 17:14
וַיִּהְיוּ הַמֵּתִים בַּמַּגֵּפָה אַרְבָּעָה עָשָׂר אֶלֶף וּשְׁבַע מֵאוֹת מִלְּבַד הַמֵּתִים עַל־דְּבַר־קֹרַח׃
Those who died of the plague came to fourteen thousand and seven hundred, aside from those who died on account of Korah.
Targum Onkelos
וַהֲווֹ דְּמִיתוּ בְּמוֹתָנָא אַרְבְּעַת עֲשַׂר אַלְפִין וּשְׁבַע מְאָה בַּר מִדְּמִיתוּ עַל פְּלוּגְּתָא דְּקֹרַח׃
The dead in the plague totaled fourteen thousand seven hundred, excluding those who died due to Korach’s rebellion [division].
- Numbers 17:15
וַיָּשׇׁב אַהֲרֹן אֶל־מֹשֶׁה אֶל־פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וְהַמַּגֵּפָה נֶעֱצָרָה׃
Aaron then returned to Moses at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, since the plague was checked.
Targum Onkelos
וְתָב אַהֲרֹן לְוָת מֹשֶׁה לִתְרַע מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא וּמוֹתָנָא אִתְכְּלִי׃
Aharon returned to Moshe to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and the plague was halted.
