  1. Deuteronomy 21:10

When you take the field against your enemies, and the ETERNAL your God delivers them into your power and you take some of them captive,

    Targum Onkelos

    אֲרֵי תִפּוֹק לְאָגָחָא קְרָבָא עַל בַּעֲלֵי דְּבָבָךְ וְיִמְסְרִנּוּן יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ בִּידָךְ וְתִשְׁבֵּי שִׁבְיְהוֹן׃

    If you should go to [wage] war against your enemies, and Adonoy, your God, puts them in your hand, and you capture prisoners from them;

  2. Deuteronomy 21:11

    וְרָאִיתָ בַּשִּׁבְיָה אֵשֶׁת יְפַת־תֹּאַר וְחָשַׁקְתָּ בָהּ וְלָקַחְתָּ לְךָ לְאִשָּׁה׃

    and you see among the captives a beautiful woman and you desire her and would take her to wife;

    Targum Onkelos

    וְתִחְזֵי בְּשִׁבְיָא אִתְּתָא שַׁפִּירַת רֵיו וְתִתְרְעֵי בַהּ וְתִסְּבַהּ לָךְ לְאִתּוּ׃

And you see among the prisoners a beautifully formed woman; if you desire her, you may take her as your wife.

  3. Deuteronomy 21:12

and you bring her into your household, and she trims her hair, pares her nails,

    Targum Onkelos

You will bring her into your house and she will shave her head and allow her nails to grow.

  4. Deuteronomy 21:13

and discards her captive’s garb; and she spends a month’s time in your household lamenting her father and mother: after that you may come to her and thus become her husband, and she shall be your wife.

    Targum Onkelos

She must discard her prisoner’s garb from upon her, and she will remain in your home and weep for her father and her mother a month of days; and afterwards you may come to her and consummate with her, and she will become your wife.

  5. Deuteronomy 21:14

Then, should you no longer want her, you must release her outright. You must not sell her for money: since you had your will of her, you must not enslave her.

    Targum Onkelos

But it shall come to pass, that if you do not desire her you will send her free, but to sell—you may not sell her for money; you may not exploit her since you have oppressed her.

  6. Deuteronomy 21:15

If a man has two wives, one loved and the other unloved, and both the loved and the unloved have borne him sons, but the first-born is the son of the unloved one—

    Targum Onkelos

If a man has two wives, one loved and the other hated, and they bear him sons, the loved [one] and the hated [one], and the firstborn son will be the hated one’s.

  7. Deuteronomy 21:16

when he wills his property to his sons, he may not treat as first-born the son of the loved one in disregard of the son of the unloved one who is older.

    Targum Onkelos

When the day comes for him to will to his sons what he owns, he may not prefer the son of the loved one over the son of the hated one—the firstborn.

  8. Deuteronomy 21:17

Instead, he must accept the first-born, the son of the unloved one, and allot to him a double portion of all he possesses; since he is the first fruit of his vigor, the birthright is his due.

    Targum Onkelos

Rather, the firstborn son of the hated one is he to recognize [separate] to give him doublefold of all that he possesses; for he is the first of his power, he has the rights of primogeniture.

  9. Deuteronomy 21:18

If a man has a wayward and defiant son, who does not heed his father or mother and does not obey them even after they discipline him,

    Targum Onkelos

If a man has a wayward and rebellious son who does not obey his father[’s words] and his mother[’s words]; though they chasten [teach] him; he does not listen to [obey] them.

  10. Deuteronomy 21:19

his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his town at the public place of his community.

    Targum Onkelos

His father and mother are to grasp him and take him out to [before] the judges of his city and to the court in his location.

  11. Deuteronomy 21:20

They shall say to the elders of his town, “This son of ours is disloyal and defiant; he does not heed us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.”

    Targum Onkelos

They will say to the judges of his city, ‘‘This son of ours is wayward and rebellious—he does not obey [our words]—gluttonous [with meat] and drunken [with wine].’’

  12. Deuteronomy 21:21

Thereupon the people of his town shall stone him to death. Thus you will sweep out evil from your midst: all Israel will hear and be afraid.

    Targum Onkelos

And all the men of his city will stone him with stones so that he dies, and you will eliminate the evil [doers] within you; and let all Yisroel hear and be fearful.
