  1. Genesis 2:20

And the Human gave names to all the cattle and to the birds of the sky and to all the wild beasts; but no fitting counterpart for a human being was found.

    Targum Onkelos

The man gave names to every animal, to the birds of the heaven, and to every beast of the field, but the man did not find a helper for himself.

  2. Genesis 2:21

So the ETERNAL God cast a deep sleep upon the Human; and, while he slept, [God] took one of his sides and closed up the flesh at that site.

    Targum Onkelos

Adonoy Elohim caused unconsciousness to fall upon the man and he slept. He took one of his ribs and closed over [filled] flesh in its place.

  3. Genesis 2:22

And the ETERNAL God fashioned the side that had been taken from the Human into a woman, bringing her to the Human.

    Targum Onkelos

Adonoy Elohim built the rib that He took from the man into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

  4. Genesis 2:23

Then the Human said, “This one at last Is bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh. This one shall be called the Woman, For from the Man was she taken.”

    Targum Onkelos

The man said: This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. This shall be called Woman, for from Man [husband] was she taken.

  5. Genesis 2:24

Hence a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, so that they become one flesh.

    Targum Onkelos

Therefore, a man shall leave [the house where] his father and his mother [sleep], and cling to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

  6. Genesis 2:25

The two of them were naked, the Human and his wife, yet they felt no shame.

    Targum Onkelos

The two of them were naked, the man and his wife, and they were not ashamed.

  7. Genesis 3:1

Now the serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild beasts that the ETERNAL God had made. It said to the woman, “Did God really say: You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?”

    Targum Onkelos

The serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which Adonoy Elohim made; and it said to the woman, Did Elohim even [truly] say that you should not eat from all the trees of the Garden?

  8. Genesis 3:2

The woman replied to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the other trees of the garden.

    Targum Onkelos

The woman said to the serpent, From the fruit of the trees of the Garden we may eat.

  9. Genesis 3:3

It is only about fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden that God said: ‘You shall not eat of it or touch it, lest you die.’”

    Targum Onkelos

But of the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the Garden, Elohim said, You shall not eat from it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.

  10. Genesis 3:4

And the serpent said to the woman, “You are not going to die,

    Targum Onkelos

The serpent said to the woman, You certainly will not die.

  11. Genesis 3:5

but God knows that as soon as you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like divine beings who know good and bad.”

    Targum Onkelos

For [it is revealed before] Elohim (knows) that on the day you will eat from it, your eyes will be opened, and you will become as gods [great ones], knowing what is good and what is evil.

  12. Genesis 3:6

When the woman saw that the tree was good for eating and a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable as a source of wisdom, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave some to her husband, and he ate.

    Targum Onkelos

The woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was tempting [healing] to the eyes, and that the tree was appealing [to look at] as a means of [obtaining] wisdom. She took of its fruit and she ate, and she also gave it to her husband with her, and he ate.

  13. Genesis 3:7

Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they perceived that they were naked; and they sewed together fig leaves and made themselves loincloths.

    Targum Onkelos

  14. Genesis 3:8

They heard the sound of the ETERNAL God moving about in the garden at the breezy time of day; and the Human and his wife hid from the ETERNAL God among the trees of the garden.

    Targum Onkelos

“Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat of the tree from which I had forbidden you to eat?”

    Targum Onkelos
