- Numbers 2:1
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהֹוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה וְאֶל־אַהֲרֹן לֵאמֹר׃
GOD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:
Targum Onkelos
וּמַלֵּיל יְיָ עִם מֹשֶׁה וּלְאַהֲרֹן לְמֵימַר׃
Adonoy spoke to Moshe and to Aharon, saying;
- Numbers 2:2
אִישׁ עַל־דִּגְלוֹ בְאֹתֹת לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם יַחֲנוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִנֶּגֶד סָבִיב לְאֹהֶל־מוֹעֵד יַחֲנוּ׃
The Israelites shall camp each [household] with its standard, under the banners of their ancestral house; they shall camp around the Tent of Meeting at a distance.
Targum Onkelos
גְּבַר עַל טִקְסֵיהּ בְּאָתְוָון לְבֵית אֲבָהָתְהוֹן יִשְׁרוֹן בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִקֳּבֵיל סְחוֹר סְחוֹר לְמַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא יִשְׁרוֹן׃
Each man at his own banner, with the insignia of their fathers’ houses shall Bnei Yisroel encamp, at a distance around the Tent of Meeting they shall encamp.
- Numbers 2:3
וְהַחֹנִים קֵדְמָה מִזְרָחָה דֶּגֶל מַחֲנֵה יְהוּדָה לְצִבְאֹתָם וְנָשִׂיא לִבְנֵי יְהוּדָה נַחְשׁוֹן בֶּן־עַמִּינָדָב׃
Camped on the front, or east side: the standard of the division of Judah, troop by troop. Chieftain of the Judahites: Nahshon son of Amminadab.
Targum Onkelos
וְדִשְׁרַן קִדּוּמָא מַדְנְחָא טֵיקַס מַשְׁרִית יְהוּדָה לְחֵילֵיהוֹן וְרַבָּא לִבְנֵי יְהוּדָה נַחְשׁוֹן בַּר עַמִּינָדָב׃
Those whose camp is in the forefront, on the eastern side is the camp of the banner of Yehudah according to their divisions, and the leader of the sons of Yehudah is Nachshon the son of Aminadav.

וּצְבָאוֹ וּפְקֻדֵיהֶם אַרְבָּעָה וְשִׁבְעִים אֶלֶף וְשֵׁשׁ מֵאוֹת׃
His troop, as enrolled: 74,600.

וְחֵילֵיהּ וּמִנְיָנֵיהוֹן שִׁבְעִין וְאַרְבְּעָא אַלְפִין וְשֵׁית מְאָה׃
Its division and their numbers is seventy-four thousand six hundred.

Camping next to it: The tribe of Issachar. Chieftain of the Issacharites: Nethanel son of Zuar.
Targum Onkelos
וְדִשְׁרַן סְמִיכִין עֲלוֹהִי שִׁבְטָא דְּיִשָּׂשכָר וְרַבָּא לִבְנֵי יִשָּׂשכָר נְתַנְאֵל בַּר צוּעָר׃
Those who camp along with [near] him are; the tribe of Yissachar, and the leader of the sons of Yissachar is Nesanel the son of Tzu’ar.

וּצְבָאוֹ וּפְקֻדָיו אַרְבָּעָה וַחֲמִשִּׁים אֶלֶף וְאַרְבַּע מֵאוֹת׃

Its division and its numbers is fifty-four thousand four hundred.

מַטֵּה זְבוּלֻן וְנָשִׂיא לִבְנֵי זְבוּלֻן אֱלִיאָב בֶּן־חֵלֹן׃
The tribe of Zebulun. Chieftain of the Zebulunites: Eliab son of Helon.
Targum Onkelos
שִׁבְטָא דִּזְבוּלוּן וְרַבָּא לִבְנֵי זְבוּלוּן אֱלִיאָב בַּר חֵלוֹן׃
The tribe of Zevulun, and the leader of the sons of Zevulun is Eliav the son of Cheilon.

The total enrolled in the division of Judah: 186,400, for all troops. These shall march first.
Targum Onkelos
כָּל מִנְיָנַיָּא לְמַשְׁרִית יְהוּדָה מְאָה וּתְמָנַן וְשִׁתָּא אַלְפִין וְאַרְבַּע מְאָה לְחֵילֵיהוֹן בְּקַדְמֵיתָא נָטְלִין׃
The total numbers for the encampment of Yehudah is one hundred eighty-six thousand four hundred according to their divisions, [and] they travel [in the] first [position].

The banner of the camp of Reuven is on the south side, according to their divisions, and the leader of the sons of Reuven is Elitzur the son of Shdeiur.

The tribe of Gad, and the leader of the sons of Gad is Elyasaf the son of Re’uel.

וְנָסַע אֹהֶל־מוֹעֵד מַחֲנֵה הַלְוִיִּם בְּתוֹךְ הַמַּחֲנֹת כַּאֲשֶׁר יַחֲנוּ כֵּן יִסָּעוּ אִישׁ עַל־יָדוֹ לְדִגְלֵיהֶם׃
Then, midway between the divisions, the Tent of Meeting, the division of the Levites, shall move. As they camp, so they shall march, each in position, by their standards.
Targum Onkelos
וְנָטֵיל מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא מַשְׁרִית לֵיוָאֵי בְּגוֹ מַשְׁרְיָתָא כְּמָא דְּשָׁרַן כֵּן נָטְלִין גְּבַר עַל אַתְרֵיהּ לְטִקְסֵיהוֹן׃
The Tent of Meeting shall travel [along with] the camp of the Levites in the center of the [other] camps, just as they camp so shall they travel, each man in his place according to their [various] banners.
- Numbers 2:18
דֶּגֶל מַחֲנֵה אֶפְרַיִם לְצִבְאֹתָם יָמָּה וְנָשִׂיא לִבְנֵי אֶפְרַיִם אֱלִישָׁמָע בֶּן־עַמִּיהוּד׃
On the west: the standard of the division of Ephraim, troop by troop. Chieftain of the Ephraimites: Elishama son of Ammihud.
Targum Onkelos
טֵיקַס מַשְׁרִית אֶפְרַיִם לְחֵילֵיהוֹן מַעְרְבָא וְרַבָּא לִבְנֵי אֶפְרַיִם אֱלִישָׁמָע בַּר עַמִּיהוּד׃
The banner of the camp of Ephraim, according to their divisions is on the west side, and the leader of the sons of Ephraim is Elishamah the son of Amihud.
- Numbers 2:19

And the tribe of Benjamin. Chieftain of the Benjaminites: Abidan son of Gideoni.

The tribe of Binyamin, and the leader of the sons of Binyamin is Avidan the son of Gid’oni.

And the tribe of Naphtali. Chieftain of the Naphtalites: Ahira son of Enan.

וְשִׁבְטָא דְּנַפְתָּלִי וְרַבָּא לִבְנֵי נַפְתָּלִי אֲחִירַע בַּר עֵינָן׃
The tribe of Naftali, and the leader of the sons of Naftali is Achira the son of Einan.

אֵלֶּה פְּקוּדֵי בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם כׇּל־פְּקוּדֵי הַמַּחֲנֹת לְצִבְאֹתָם שֵׁשׁ־מֵאוֹת אֶלֶף וּשְׁלֹשֶׁת אֲלָפִים וַחֲמֵשׁ מֵאוֹת וַחֲמִשִּׁים׃
Those are the enrollments of the Israelites by ancestral houses. The total enrolled in the divisions, for all troops: 603,550.
Targum Onkelos
אִלֵּין מִנְיָנֵי בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְבֵית אֲבָהָתְהוֹן כָּל מִנְיָנֵי מַשְׁרְיָתָא לְחֵילֵיהוֹן שֵׁית מְאָה וּתְלָתָא אַלְפִין וַחֲמֵישׁ מְאָה וְחַמְשִׁין׃
These are the numbers of Bnei Yisroel according to their fathers’ houses. The total numbers of the camps according to their divisions is six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty.
- Numbers 2:33
וְהַלְוִיִּם לֹא הׇתְפָּקְדוּ בְּתוֹךְ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהֹוָה אֶת־מֹשֶׁה׃
The Levites, however, were not recorded among the Israelites, as GOD had commanded Moses.
Targum Onkelos
וְלֵיוָאֵי לָא אִתְמְנִיאוּ בְּגוֹ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כְּמָא דְּפַקֵּיד יְיָ יָת מֹשֶׁה׃
The Levites were not counted among Bnei Yisroel just as Adonoy commanded Moshe.
- Numbers 2:34
וַיַּעֲשׂוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּה יְהֹוָה אֶת־מֹשֶׁה כֵּן־חָנוּ לְדִגְלֵיהֶם וְכֵן נָסָעוּ אִישׁ לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָיו עַל־בֵּית אֲבֹתָיו׃
The Israelites did accordingly; just as GOD had commanded Moses, so they camped by their standards, and so they marched, each [household] with its clan according to its ancestral house.
Targum Onkelos
וַעֲבַדוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כְּכֹל דְּפַקֵּיד יְיָ יָת מֹשֶׁה כֵּן שָׁרַן לְטִקְסֵיהוֹן וְכֵן נָטְלִין גְּבַר לְזַרְעִיתֵיהּ עַל בֵּית אֲבָהָתוֹהִי׃
Bnei Yisroel did all which Adonoy commanded Moshe, so they camped according to their [various] banners and so they traveled, each man with his family according to his fathers’ house.
