- Genesis 45:28
וַיֹּאמֶר יִשְׂרָאֵל רַב עוֹד־יוֹסֵף בְּנִי חָי אֵלְכָה וְאֶרְאֶנּוּ בְּטֶרֶם אָמוּת׃
“Enough!” said Israel. “My son Joseph is still alive! I must go and see him before I die.”
Targum Onkelos
וַאֲמַר יִשְׂרָאֵל סַגִּי לִי חֶדְוָא עַד כְּעַן יוֹסֵף בְּרִי קַיָּים אֵיזֵיל וְאֶחְזֵינֵיהּ עַד לָא אֲמוּת׃
Yisrael said, It is too much [There is great joy for me]! My son Yoseif still lives. I will go and see him before I die.
- Genesis 46:1
וַיִּסַּע יִשְׂרָאֵל וְכׇל־אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ וַיָּבֹא בְּאֵרָה שָּׁבַע וַיִּזְבַּח זְבָחִים לֵאלֹהֵי אָבִיו יִצְחָק׃
So Israel set out with all that was his, and he came to Beer-sheba, where he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.
Targum Onkelos
וּנְטַל יִשְׂרָאֵל וְכָל דְּלֵיהּ וַאֲתָא לִבְאֵר שָׁבַע וְדַבַּח דִּבְחִין לֵאלָהָא דַּאֲבוּהִי יִצְחָק׃
Yisrael journeyed with all that he possessed, and he came to Beer Sheva. He offered sacrifices [there] to the God of his father Yitzchok.
- Genesis 46:2
וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים ׀ לְיִשְׂרָאֵל בְּמַרְאֹת הַלַּיְלָה וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב ׀ יַעֲקֹב וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּנִי׃
God called to Israel in a vision by night: “Jacob! Jacob!” He answered, “Here.”
Targum Onkelos
וַאֲמַר יְיָ לְיִשְׂרָאֵל בְּחֶזְוָא דְּלֵילְיָא וַאֲמַר יַעֲקֹב יַעֲקֹב וַאֲמַר הָאֲנָא׃
Elohim said to Yisrael in a night vision, and He said, Yaakov, Yaakov. And he said, Here I am.
- Genesis 46:3
וַיֹּאמֶר אָנֹכִי הָאֵל אֱלֹהֵי אָבִיךָ אַל־תִּירָא מֵרְדָה מִצְרַיְמָה כִּי־לְגוֹי גָּדוֹל אֲשִׂימְךָ שָׁם׃
“I am God, the God of your father. Fear not to go down to Egypt, for I will make you there into a great nation.
Targum Onkelos
וַאֲמַר אֲנָא אֵל אֱלָהָא דַּאֲבוּךְ לָא תִדְחַל מִלְּמֵיחַת לְמִצְרַיִם אֲרֵי לְעַם סַגִּי אֲשַׁוֵּינָךְ תַּמָּן׃
He said I am the Almighty, God of your father. Do not be afraid to do down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation.
- Genesis 46:4
אָנֹכִי אֵרֵד עִמְּךָ מִצְרַיְמָה וְאָנֹכִי אַעַלְךָ גַם־עָלֹה וְיוֹסֵף יָשִׁית יָדוֹ עַל־עֵינֶיךָ׃
I Myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I Myself will also bring you back; and Joseph’s hand shall close your eyes.”
Targum Onkelos
אֲנָא אֵיחוֹת עִמָּךְ לְמִצְרַיִם וַאֲנָא אַסְּקִנָּךְ אַף אַסָּקָא וְיוֹסֵף יְשַׁוֵּי יְדוֹהִי עַל עֵינָךְ׃
I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again. Yoseif shall place his hand upon your eyes.

וַיָּקׇם יַעֲקֹב מִבְּאֵר שָׁבַע וַיִּשְׂאוּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־יַעֲקֹב אֲבִיהֶם וְאֶת־טַפָּם וְאֶת־נְשֵׁיהֶם בָּעֲגָלוֹת אֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַח פַּרְעֹה לָשֵׂאת אֹתוֹ׃
So Jacob set out from Beer-sheba. The sons of Israel put their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to transport him;

וְקָם יַעֲקֹב מִבְּאֵר שָׁבַע וּנְטַלוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל יָת יַעֲקֹב אֲבוּהוֹן וְיָת טַפְלְהוֹן וְיָת נְשֵׁיהוֹן בְּעֶגְלָתָא דִּשְׁלַח פַּרְעֹה לְמִטַּל יָתֵיהּ׃
Yaakov rose up from Beer Sheva. The sons of Yisrael transported their father Yaakov, their children, their wives in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him.

וַיִּקְחוּ אֶת־מִקְנֵיהֶם וְאֶת־רְכוּשָׁם אֲשֶׁר רָכְשׁוּ בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן וַיָּבֹאוּ מִצְרָיְמָה יַעֲקֹב וְכׇל־זַרְעוֹ אִתּוֹ׃
and they took along their livestock and the wealth that they had amassed in the land of Canaan. Thus Jacob and all his offspring with him came to Egypt:

וּדְבַרוּ יָת גֵּיתֵיהוֹן וְיָת קִנְיָנְהוֹן דִּקְנוֹ בְּאַרְעָא דִּכְנַעַן וַאֲתוֹ לְמִצְרָיִם יַעֲקֹב וְכָל בְּנוֹהִי עִמֵּיהּ׃
They took their livestock and their possessions that they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and they came to Egypt; Yaakov and all his descendants with him.

בָּנָיו וּבְנֵי בָנָיו אִתּוֹ בְּנֹתָיו וּבְנוֹת בָּנָיו וְכׇל־זַרְעוֹ הֵבִיא אִתּוֹ מִצְרָיְמָה׃
he brought with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons, his daughters and granddaughters—all his offspring.
Targum Onkelos
בְּנוֹהִי וּבְנֵי בְנוֹהִי עִמֵּיהּ בְּנָתֵיהּ וּבְנָת בְּנוֹהִי וְכָל בְּנוֹהִי אַיְתִי עִמֵּיהּ לְמִצְרָיִם׃
His sons and grandsons were with him. His daughters and his granddaughters, and all his descendants he brought with him to Egypt.
- Genesis 46:8
וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹת בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל הַבָּאִים מִצְרַיְמָה יַעֲקֹב וּבָנָיו בְּכֹר יַעֲקֹב רְאוּבֵן׃
These are the names of the Israelites, Jacob and his descendants, who came to Egypt. Jacob’s first-born Reuben;

וְאִלֵּין שְׁמָהָת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל דְּעָאלוּ לְמִצְרַיִם יַעֲקֹב וּבְנוֹהִי בּוּכְרֵיהּ דְּיַעֲקֹב רְאוּבֵן׃
These are the names of the sons of Yisrael who were coming to Egypt, Yaakov and his sons. The firstborn of Yaakov was Reuvein.

וּבְנֵי רְאוּבֵן חֲנוֹךְ וּפַלּוּא וְחֶצְרֹן וְכַרְמִי׃
Reuben’s sons: Enoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
Targum Onkelos
וּבְנֵי רְאוּבֵן חֲנוֹךְ וּפַלּוּא וְחֶצְרוֹן וְכַרְמִי׃
The sons of Reuvein [were]: Chanoch, Phallu, Chetzron and Carmi.
- Genesis 46:10
וּבְנֵי שִׁמְעוֹן יְמוּאֵל וְיָמִין וְאֹהַד וְיָכִין וְצֹחַר וְשָׁאוּל בֶּן־הַכְּנַעֲנִית׃
Simeon’s sons: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Saul the son of a Canaanite woman.
Targum Onkelos
וּבְנֵי שִׁמְעוֹן יְמוּאֵל וְיָמִין וְאֹהַד וְיָכִין וְצוֹחַר וְשָׁאוּל בַּר כְּנַעֲנֵיתָא׃
The sons, of Shimon [were]: Yemueil, Yamin, Ohad, Yachin, Tzochar and Shaul, the son of the Canaanite woman.

וּבְנֵי לֵוִי גֵּרְשׁוֹן קְהָת וּמְרָרִי׃
Levi’s sons: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
Targum Onkelos
וּבְנֵי לֵוִי גֵּרְשׁוֹן קְהָת וּמְרָרִי׃
The sons of Leivi [were] Gershon, Kehas and Merari.

וּבְנֵי יְהוּדָה עֵר וְאוֹנָן וְשֵׁלָה וָפֶרֶץ וָזָרַח וַיָּמׇת עֵר וְאוֹנָן בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן וַיִּהְיוּ בְנֵי־פֶרֶץ חֶצְרֹן וְחָמוּל׃
Judah’s sons: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah—but Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan; and Perez’s sons were Hezron and Hamul.

וּבְנֵי יְהוּדָה עֵר וְאוֹנָן וְשֵׁלָה וָפֶרֶץ וָזָרַח וּמִית עֵר וְאוֹנָן בְּאַרְעָא דִּכְנַעַן וַהֲווֹ בְּנֵי פֶרֶץ חֶצְרוֹן וְחָמוּל׃
The sons of Yehudah [were]: Eir, Onan, Sheiloh, Peretz and Zorach. Eir and Onan died in the land of Canaan. The sons of Peretz were Chetzron and Chamul.

וּבְנֵי יִשָּׂשכָר תּוֹלָע וּפֻוָה וְיוֹב וְשִׁמְרֹן׃
Issachar’s sons: Tola, Puvah, Iob, and Shimron.

וּבְנֵי יִשָּׂשכָר תּוֹלָע וּפֻוָּה וְיוֹב וְשִׁמְרוֹן׃
The sons of Yissachar [were]: Tolah, Phuvah, Yov and Shimron.

וּבְנֵי זְבֻלוּן סֶרֶד וְאֵלוֹן וְיַחְלְאֵל׃
Zebulun’s sons: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.

וּבְנֵי זְבוּלוּן סֶרֶד וְאֵילוֹן וְיַחְלְאֵל׃
The sons of Zevulun [were]: Sered, Eilon and Yachle’eil.

אֵלֶּה ׀ בְּנֵי לֵאָה אֲשֶׁר יָלְדָה לְיַעֲקֹב בְּפַדַּן אֲרָם וְאֵת דִּינָה בִתּוֹ כׇּל־נֶפֶשׁ בָּנָיו וּבְנוֹתָיו שְׁלֹשִׁים וְשָׁלֹשׁ׃
Those were the sons whom Leah bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, in addition to his daughter Dinah. Persons in all, male and female: 33.

אִלֵּין בְּנֵי לֵאָה דִּילֵידַת לְיַעֲקֹב בְּפַדַּן אֲרָם וְיָת דִּינָה בְּרַתֵּיהּ כָּל נְפַשׁ בְּנוֹהִי וּבְנָתֵיהּ תְּלָתִין וּתְלָת׃
These are the sons of Leah that she bore to Yaakov in Padan Aram, along with his daughter Deenah. All the souls of his sons and daughters were thirty-three.

וּבְנֵי גָד צִפְיוֹן וְחַגִּי שׁוּנִי וְאֶצְבֹּן עֵרִי וַאֲרוֹדִי וְאַרְאֵלִי׃
Gad’s sons: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.

וּבְנֵי גָד צִפְיוֹן וְחַגִּי שׁוּנִי וְאֶצְבּוֹן עֵרִי וַאֲרוֹדִי וְאַרְאֵלִי׃
The sons of Gad [were]: Tzifyon, Chagi, Shuni, Etzbon, Eiri, Arodi, and Areili.

וּבְנֵי אָשֵׁר יִמְנָה וְיִשְׁוָה וְיִשְׁוִי וּבְרִיעָה וְשֶׂרַח אֲחֹתָם וּבְנֵי בְרִיעָה חֶבֶר וּמַלְכִּיאֵל׃
Asher’s sons: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, and Beriah, and their sister Serah. Beriah’s sons: Heber and Malchiel.

וּבְנֵי אָשֵׁר יִמְנָה וְיִשְׁוָה וְיִשְׁוִי וּבְרִיעָה וְשֶׂרַח אֲחָתְהוֹן וּבְנֵי בְרִיעָה חֶבֶר וּמַלְכִּיאֵל׃
The sons of Asher [were]: Yimnah, Yishvah, Yishvi, and Beriah, and their sister, Serach. The sons of Beriah [were]: Chever and Malki’eil.

אֵלֶּה בְּנֵי זִלְפָּה אֲשֶׁר־נָתַן לָבָן לְלֵאָה בִתּוֹ וַתֵּלֶד אֶת־אֵלֶּה לְיַעֲקֹב שֵׁשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה נָפֶשׁ׃
These were the descendants of Zilpah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah. These she bore to Jacob—16 persons.

אִלֵּין בְּנֵי זִלְפָּה דִּיהַב לָבָן לְלֵאָה בְּרַתֵּיהּ וִילֵידַת יָת אִלֵּין לְיַעֲקֹב שֵׁית עַסְרֵי נַפְשָׁן׃
These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Lavan gave to his daughter, Leah. She bore these to Yaakov, sixteen souls.

בְּנֵי רָחֵל אֵשֶׁת יַעֲקֹב יוֹסֵף וּבִנְיָמִן׃
The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.

בְּנֵי רָחֵל אִתַּת יַעֲקֹב יוֹסֵף וּבִנְיָמִין׃
The sons of Rochel, Yaakov’s wife [were]: Yoseif and Binyomin.

וַיִּוָּלֵד לְיוֹסֵף בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם אֲשֶׁר יָלְדָה־לּוֹ אָסְנַת בַּת־פּוֹטִי פֶרַע כֹּהֵן אֹן אֶת־מְנַשֶּׁה וְאֶת־אֶפְרָיִם׃
To Joseph were born in the land of Egypt Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath daughter of Poti-phera priest of On bore to him.

וְאִתְיְלֵיד לְיוֹסֵף בְּאַרְעָא דְּמִצְרַיִם דִּילֵידַת לֵיהּ אָסְנַת בַּת פּוֹטִיפֶרַע רַבָּא דְּאוֹן יָת מְנַשֶּׁה וְיָת אֶפְרָיִם׃
In the land of Egypt, [sons] were born to Yoseif, which were born to him by Osnas, daughter of Poti Phera, priest [chief] of On; [they were] Menasheh and Ephraim.

Benjamin’s sons: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.

וּבְנֵי בִנְיָמִין בֶּלַע וָבֶכֶר וְאַשְׁבֵּל גֵּרָא וְנַעֲמָן אֵחִי וָרֹאשׁ מֻפִּים וְחֻפִּים וָאָרְדְּ׃
The sons of Binyomin [were]: Bela, Becher, Ashbeil, Geiroh, Naamon, Eichi, Rosh, Muppim, Chuppim and Ard.

אֵלֶּה בְּנֵי רָחֵל אֲשֶׁר יֻלַּד לְיַעֲקֹב כׇּל־נֶפֶשׁ אַרְבָּעָה עָשָׂר׃
These were the descendants of Rachel who were born to Jacob—14 persons in all.

אִלֵּין בְּנֵי רָחֵל דְּאִתְיְלִידוּ לְיַעֲקֹב כָּל נַפְשָׁתָא אַרְבַּע עַסְרֵי׃
These are the sons of Rochel that she bore to Yaakov. All the souls were fourteen.

Dan’s son: Hushim.
Targum Onkelos
וּבְנֵי דָּן חֻשִׁים׃
The sons of Don [were] Chushim.

וּבְנֵי נַפְתָּלִי יַחְצְאֵל וְגוּנִי וְיֵצֶר וְשִׁלֵּם׃
Naphtali’s sons: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.
Targum Onkelos
וּבְנֵי נַפְתָּלִי יַחְצְאֵל וְגוּנִי וְיֵצֶר וְשִׁלֵּם׃
The sons of Naftali were: Yachtze’eil, Guni, Yeitzer and Shileim.

אֵלֶּה בְּנֵי בִלְהָה אֲשֶׁר־נָתַן לָבָן לְרָחֵל בִּתּוֹ וַתֵּלֶד אֶת־אֵלֶּה לְיַעֲקֹב כׇּל־נֶפֶשׁ שִׁבְעָה׃
These were the descendants of Bilhah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Rachel. These she bore to Jacob—7 persons in all.
Targum Onkelos
אִלֵּין בְּנֵי בִלְהָה דִּיהַב לָבָן לְרָחֵל בְּרַתֵּיהּ וִילֵידַת יָת אִלֵּין לְיַעֲקֹב כָּל נַפְשָׁתָא שְׁבַע׃
These are the sons of Bilhah whom Lavan gave to his daughter Rochel. She bore these to Yaakov, seven souls in all.

כׇּל־הַנֶּפֶשׁ הַבָּאָה לְיַעֲקֹב מִצְרַיְמָה יֹצְאֵי יְרֵכוֹ מִלְּבַד נְשֵׁי בְנֵי־יַעֲקֹב כׇּל־נֶפֶשׁ שִׁשִּׁים וָשֵׁשׁ׃
All the persons belonging to Jacob who came to Egypt—his own issue, aside from the wives of Jacob’s sons—all these persons numbered 66.

כָּל נַפְשָׁתָא דְּעַאלָא עִם יַעֲקֹב לְמִצְרַיִם נָפְקֵי יִרְכֵּיהּ בָּר מִנְּשֵׁי בְנֵי יַעֲקֹב כָּל נַפְשָׁתָא שִׁתִּין וְשֵׁית׃
All the souls coming with Yaakov to Egypt, who came out of his loins, not counting the wives of Yaakov’s sons, all the souls totaled sixty-six.

וּבְנֵי יוֹסֵף אֲשֶׁר־יֻלַּד־לוֹ בְמִצְרַיִם נֶפֶשׁ שְׁנָיִם כׇּל־הַנֶּפֶשׁ לְבֵית־יַעֲקֹב הַבָּאָה מִצְרַיְמָה שִׁבְעִים׃
And Joseph’s sons who were born to him in Egypt were two in number. Thus the total of Jacob’s household who came to Egypt was seventy persons.

וּבְנֵי יוֹסֵף דְּאִתְיְלִידוּ לֵיהּ בְּמִצְרַיִם נַפְשָׁתָא תַּרְתֵּין כָּל נַפְשָׁתָא לְבֵית יַעֲקֹב דְּעַאלָא לְמִצְרַיִם שִׁבְעִין׃
The sons of Yoseif who were born to him in Egypt were [another] two souls. All the souls of the house of Yaakov that came to Egypt were seventy.
