  1. Deuteronomy 7:1

When the ETERNAL your God brings you to the land that you are about to enter and possess, and dislodges many nations before you—the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations much larger than you—

    Targum Onkelos

When Adonoy, your God, brings you into the land that you are coming there to inherit, He will cast out many nations from before you—the Chittites, the Girgashites and the Emorites, the Canaanites and the Perizites, the Chivites and the Yevusites—seven nations more numerous and more powerful than you.

  2. Deuteronomy 7:2

and the ETERNAL your God delivers them to you and you defeat them, you must doom them to destruction: grant them no terms and give them no quarter.

    Targum Onkelos

Adonoy, your God, will defeat them before you, and you will smite them. You must surely annihilate them. Do not make a treaty with them, and do not favor [show mercy on] them.

  3. Deuteronomy 7:3

You shall not intermarry with them: do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons.

    Targum Onkelos

Do not marry them; do not give your daughter to his son, nor take his daughter for your son.

  4. Deuteronomy 7:4

For they will turn your children away from Me to worship other gods, and GOD’s anger will blaze forth against you, promptly wiping you out.

    Targum Onkelos

For he will turn your son away from Me [My service] and they will serve other gods [idols of the nations]; and Adonoy’s anger will be aroused against you and He will destroy you swiftly.

  5. Deuteronomy 7:5

Instead, this is what you shall do to them: you shall tear down their altars, smash their pillars, cut down their sacred posts, and consign their images to the fire.

    Targum Onkelos

Rather, thus shall you do to them: raze their altars and smash their monuments, cut down their worship-trees and burn their statues [idols] in fire.

  6. Deuteronomy 7:6

For you are a people consecrated to the ETERNAL your God: of all the peoples on earth, the ETERNAL your God chose you to be the treasured one.

    Targum Onkelos

For you are a holy people to Adonoy, your God; Adonoy, your God, chose you to be for Him a treasured people from all the peoples that are on the face of the earth.

  7. Deuteronomy 7:7

    לֹא מֵרֻבְּכֶם מִכׇּל־הָעַמִּים חָשַׁק יְהֹוָה בָּכֶם וַיִּבְחַר בָּכֶם כִּי־אַתֶּם הַמְעַט מִכׇּל־הָעַמִּים׃

    It is not because you are the most numerous of peoples that GOD grew attached to you and chose you—indeed, you are the smallest of peoples;

    Targum Onkelos

    לָא מִדְּסַגִּיאִין אַתּוּן מִכָּל עַמְמַיָּא צְבִי יְיָ בְּכוֹן וְאִתְרְעִי בְכוֹן אֲרֵי אַתּוּן זְעֵירִין מִכָּל עַמְמַיָּא׃

Not because of the multitude your population beyond all peoples did Adonoy desire you and choose you; for you are the least of all the peoples.

  8. Deuteronomy 7:8

but it was because GOD favored you and kept the oath made to your fathers that GOD freed you with a mighty hand and rescued you from the house of bondage, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

    Targum Onkelos

Rather, out of Adonoy’s love for you and out of His keeping the oath that He swore to your forefathers did Adonoy take you out with a strong hand, and did He redeem you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt.

  9. Deuteronomy 7:9

Know, therefore, that only the ETERNAL your God is God, the steadfast God who keeps this covenant faithfully to the thousandth generation of those who show love and keep the commandments,

    Targum Onkelos

You will know that Adonoy, your God, is the God, the trusted Almighty, who keeps the covenant and the kindliness for those who love Him and for those who keep His commandments, for a thousand generations.

  10. Deuteronomy 7:10

but who instantly requites with destruction those who are disloyal—never slow with those who are disloyal, but requiting them instantly.

    Targum Onkelos

And He pays His enemy [for the good that they have done before Him] to his face [in their lifetime] to destroy him. He does not delay [to do good] for His enemy [for the good that they have done before Him]—to his face [in their lifetime] does He pay him [them].

  11. Deuteronomy 7:11

Therefore, observe faithfully the Instruction—the laws and the rules—with which I charge you today.

    Targum Onkelos

You are to guard the commandments and the statutes and the laws that I am commanding you today, to fulfill.
