- Genesis 26:23
וַיַּעַל מִשָּׁם בְּאֵר שָׁבַע׃
From there he went up to Beer-sheba.
Targum Onkelos
וּסְלֵיק מִתַּמָּן לִבְאֵר שָׁבַע׃
From there he went to Beer Sheva.
- Genesis 26:24
וַיֵּרָא אֵלָיו יְהֹוָה בַּלַּיְלָה הַהוּא וַיֹּאמֶר אָנֹכִי אֱלֹהֵי אַבְרָהָם אָבִיךָ אַל־תִּירָא כִּי־אִתְּךָ אָנֹכִי וּבֵרַכְתִּיךָ וְהִרְבֵּיתִי אֶת־זַרְעֲךָ בַּעֲבוּר אַבְרָהָם עַבְדִּי׃
That night GOD appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Fear not, for I am with you, and I will bless you and increase your offspring for the sake of My servant Abraham.”
Targum Onkelos
וְאִתְגְּלִי לֵיהּ יְיָ בְּלֵילְיָא הַהוּא וַאֲמַר אֲנָא אֱלָהֵיהּ דְּאַבְרָהָם אֲבוּךְ לָא תִּדְחַל אֲרֵי בְּסַעֲדָךְ מֵימְרִי וַאֲבָרְכִנָּךְ וְאַסְגֵּי יָת בְּנָךְ בְּדִיל אַבְרָהָם עַבְדִּי׃
Adonoy appeared [became revealed] to him that night and said, I am the God of your father, Avraham. Do not fear for I am with you [My Word is your support]. I will bless you and make your descendants numerous, because of My servant, Avraham.
- Genesis 26:25
וַיִּבֶן שָׁם מִזְבֵּחַ וַיִּקְרָא בְּשֵׁם יְהֹוָה וַיֶּט־שָׁם אׇהֳלוֹ וַיִּכְרוּ־שָׁם עַבְדֵי־יִצְחָק בְּאֵר׃
So he built an altar there and invoked GOD by name. Isaac pitched his tent there and his servants started digging a well.
Targum Onkelos
וּבְנָא תַמָּן מַדְבְּחָא וְצַלִּי בִּשְׁמָא דַּייָ וּפַרְסֵיהּ תַּמָּן לְמַשְׁכְּנֵיהּ וּכְרוֹ תַּמָּן עַבְדֵי יִצְחָק בֵּירָא׃
He [Yitzchok] built an altar there, and proclaimed [prayed in] the Name of Adonoy. He set up his tent there, and Yitzchok’s servants dug a well there.
- Genesis 26:26
וַאֲבִימֶלֶךְ הָלַךְ אֵלָיו מִגְּרָר וַאֲחֻזַּת מֵרֵעֵהוּ וּפִיכֹל שַׂר־צְבָאוֹ׃
And Abimelech came to him from Gerar, with Ahuzzath his councilor and Phicol chief of his troops.
Targum Onkelos
וַאֲבִימֶלֶךְ אֲתָא לְוָתֵיהּ מִגְּרָר וְסִיעַת מֵרָחֲמוֹהִי וּפִיכׂל רַב חֵילֵיהּ׃
Avimelech came to Yitzchok from Gerar along with a group of friends and Pichol, his general.
- Genesis 26:27
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם יִצְחָק מַדּוּעַ בָּאתֶם אֵלָי וְאַתֶּם שְׂנֵאתֶם אֹתִי וַתְּשַׁלְּחוּנִי מֵאִתְּכֶם׃
Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, seeing that you have been hostile to me and have driven me away from you?”
Targum Onkelos
וַאֲמַר לְהוֹן יִצְחָק מָדֵין אֲתֵיתוֹן לְוָתִי וְאַתּוּן סְנֵיתוֹן יָתִי וְשַׁלַּחְתּוּנִי מִלְּוָתְכוֹן׃
Yitzchok said to them, Why have you come to me? You hate me and drove me away from you.
- Genesis 26:28
וַיֹּאמְרוּ רָאוֹ רָאִינוּ כִּי־הָיָה יְהֹוָה ׀ עִמָּךְ וַנֹּאמֶר תְּהִי נָא אָלָה בֵּינוֹתֵינוּ בֵּינֵינוּ וּבֵינֶךָ וְנִכְרְתָה בְרִית עִמָּךְ׃
And they said, “We now see plainly that GOD has been with you, and we thought: Let there be a sworn treaty between our two parties, between you and us. Let us make a pact with you
Targum Onkelos
וַאֲמַרוּ מִחְזָא חֲזֵינָא אֲרֵי הֲוָה מֵימְרָא דַּייָ בְּסַעֲדָךְ וַאֲמַרְנָא תִּתְקַיַּים כְּעַן מוֹמָתָא דַּהֲוָת בֵּין אֲבָהָתַנָא בֵּינַנָא וּבֵינָךְ וְנִגְזַר קְיָם עִמָּךְ׃
They said, We have indeed seen that Adonoy is with you [the Word of Adonoy is your support], and we said, Let there now be an oath between us, [Let the oath that was between our fathers now be established] between ourselves and you, and let us make a covenant with you;
- Genesis 26:29
אִם־תַּעֲשֵׂה עִמָּנוּ רָעָה כַּאֲשֶׁר לֹא נְגַעֲנוּךָ וְכַאֲשֶׁר עָשִׂינוּ עִמְּךָ רַק־טוֹב וַנְּשַׁלֵּחֲךָ בְּשָׁלוֹם אַתָּה עַתָּה בְּרוּךְ יְהֹוָה׃
that you will not do us harm, just as we have not molested you but have always dealt kindly with you and sent you away in peace. From now on, be you blessed of GOD!”
Targum Onkelos
אִם תַּעֲבֵיד עִמַּנָא בִּישָׁא כְּמָא דְּלָא אַנְזֵיקְנָךְ וּכְמָא דַּעֲבַדְנָא עִמָּךְ לְחוֹד טָב וְשַׁלַּחְנָךְ בִּשְׁלָם אַתְּ כְּעַן בְּרִיכָא דַּייָ׃
that you will do us no harm, just as we did not touch [injure] you. We did nothing but good to you, and sent you away in peace. You are now the blessed one of Adonoy.
