- Exodus 40:1
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהֹוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃
And GOD spoke to Moses, saying:
Targum Onkelos
וּמַלֵּיל יְיָ עִם מֹשֶׁה לְמֵימַר׃
Adonoy spoke to Moshe saying.
- Exodus 40:2
בְּיוֹם־הַחֹדֶשׁ הָרִאשׁוֹן בְּאֶחָד לַחֹדֶשׁ תָּקִים אֶת־מִשְׁכַּן אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד׃
On the first day of the first month you shall set up the Tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting.
Targum Onkelos
בְּיוֹם יַרְחָא קַדְמָאָה בְּחַד לְיַרְחָא תְּקִים יָת מַשְׁכְּנָא מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא׃
“On the first day of the first month, you should set up the mishkon of the Tent of Meeting.
- Exodus 40:3
וְשַׂמְתָּ שָׁם אֵת אֲרוֹן הָעֵדוּת וְסַכֹּתָ עַל־הָאָרֹן אֶת־הַפָּרֹכֶת׃
Place there the Ark of the Pact, and screen off the ark with the curtain.
Targum Onkelos
וּתְשַׁוֵּי תַּמָּן יָת אֲרוֹנָא דְּסָהֲדוּתָא וְתַטֵּיל עַל אֲרוֹנָא יָת פָּרוּכְתָּא׃
Place the ark of Testimony there, and spread [cover] the paroches (partition) over the ark.
- Exodus 40:4
וְהֵבֵאתָ אֶת־הַשֻּׁלְחָן וְעָרַכְתָּ אֶת־עֶרְכּוֹ וְהֵבֵאתָ אֶת־הַמְּנֹרָה וְהַעֲלֵיתָ אֶת־נֵרֹתֶיהָ׃
Bring in the table and lay out its due setting; bring in the lampstand and light its lamps;
Targum Onkelos
וְתַעֵיל יָת פָּתוּרָא וְתַסְדֵּר יָת סִדְרֵיהּ וְתַעֵיל יָת מְנָרְתָא וְתַדְלֵיק יָת בּוֹצִינַהָא׃
Bring in the table and set it in order. Bring in the menorah and light its lamps.
- Exodus 40:5
וְנָתַתָּה אֶת־מִזְבַּח הַזָּהָב לִקְטֹרֶת לִפְנֵי אֲרוֹן הָעֵדֻת וְשַׂמְתָּ אֶת־מָסַךְ הַפֶּתַח לַמִּשְׁכָּן׃
and place the gold altar of incense before the Ark of the Pact. Then put up the screen for the entrance of the Tabernacle.
Targum Onkelos
וְתִתֵּין יָת מַדְבְּחָא דְּדַהְבָּא לִקְטֹרֶת בּוּסְמַיָּא קֳדָם אֲרוֹנָא דְּסָהֲדוּתָא וּתְשַׁוֵּי יָת פְּרָסָא דְּתַרְעָא לְמַשְׁכְּנָא׃
Place the golden altar for burning incense [of spices], before the ark of Testimony. Place the screen at the mishkon’s entrance.
- Exodus 40:6
וְנָתַתָּה אֵת מִזְבַּח הָעֹלָה לִפְנֵי פֶּתַח מִשְׁכַּן אֹהֶל־מוֹעֵד׃
You shall place the altar of burnt offering before the entrance of the Tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting.
Targum Onkelos
וְתִתֵּין יָת מַדְבְּחָא דַּעֲלָתָא קֳדָם תְּרַע מַשְׁכְּנָא מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא׃
Place the burnt-offering altar in front of the entrance of the mishkon of the Tent of Meeting.
- Exodus 40:7
וְנָתַתָּ אֶת־הַכִּיֹּר בֵּין־אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וּבֵין הַמִּזְבֵּחַ וְנָתַתָּ שָׁם מָיִם׃
Place the laver between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it.
Targum Onkelos
וְתִתֵּין יָת כִּיּוֹרָא בֵּין מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא וּבֵין מַדְבְּחָא וְתִתֵּין תַּמָּן מַיָּא׃
Place the laver between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water into it.
- Exodus 40:8
וְשַׂמְתָּ אֶת־הֶחָצֵר סָבִיב וְנָתַתָּ אֶת־מָסַךְ שַׁעַר הֶחָצֵר׃
Set up the enclosure round about, and put in place the screen for the gate of the enclosure.
Targum Onkelos
וּתְשַׁוֵּי יָת דָּרְתָא סְחוֹר סְחוֹר וְתִתֵּין יָת פְּרָסָא דִּתְרַע דָּרְתָא׃
Put up the enclosure all around, and set up the screen for the enclosure’s entrance.
- Exodus 40:9
וְלָקַחְתָּ אֶת־שֶׁמֶן הַמִּשְׁחָה וּמָשַׁחְתָּ אֶת־הַמִּשְׁכָּן וְאֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־בּוֹ וְקִדַּשְׁתָּ אֹתוֹ וְאֶת־כׇּל־כֵּלָיו וְהָיָה קֹדֶשׁ׃
You shall take the anointing oil and anoint the Tabernacle and all that is in it to consecrate it and all its furnishings, so that it shall be holy.
Targum Onkelos
וְתִסַּב יָת מִשְׁחָא דִּרְבוּתָא וּתְרַבֵּי יָת מַשְׁכְּנָא וְיָת כָּל דְּבֵיהּ וּתְקַדֵּישׁ יָתֵיהּ וְיָת כָּל מָנוֹהִי וִיהֵי קוּדְשָׁא׃
Take the anointing oil, and anoint the mishkon and everything in it. Sanctify it and all its vessels so that it will become holy.
- Exodus 40:10
וּמָשַׁחְתָּ אֶת־מִזְבַּח הָעֹלָה וְאֶת־כׇּל־כֵּלָיו וְקִדַּשְׁתָּ אֶת־הַמִּזְבֵּחַ וְהָיָה הַמִּזְבֵּחַ קֹדֶשׁ קׇדָשִׁים׃
Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils to consecrate the altar, so that the altar shall be most holy.
Targum Onkelos
וּתְרַבֵּי יָת מַדְבְּחָא דַּעֲלָתָא וְיָת כָּל מָנוֹהִי וּתְקַדֵּשׁ יָת מַדְבְּחָא וִיהֵי מַדְבְּחָא קֹדֶשׁ קוּדְשִׁין׃
Anoint the burnt-offering altar and all its vessels. Sanctify the altar so that the altar becomes holy of holies.
- Exodus 40:11
וּמָשַׁחְתָּ אֶת־הַכִּיֹּר וְאֶת־כַּנּוֹ וְקִדַּשְׁתָּ אֹתוֹ׃
And anoint the laver and its stand to consecrate it.
Targum Onkelos
וּתְרַבֵּי יָת כִּיּוֹרָא וְיָת בְּסִיסֵיהּ וּתְקַדֵּישׁ יָתֵיהּ׃
Anoint the laver and its base and sanctify it.
- Exodus 40:12
וְהִקְרַבְתָּ אֶת־אַהֲרֹן וְאֶת־בָּנָיו אֶל־פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וְרָחַצְתָּ אֹתָם בַּמָּיִם׃
You shall bring Aaron and his sons forward to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and wash them with the water.
Targum Onkelos
וּתְקָרֵיב יָת אַהֲרֹן וְיָת בְּנוֹהִי לִתְרַע מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא וְתַסְחֵי יָתְהוֹן בְּמַיָּא׃
Bring Aharon and his sons to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, and immerse them in a mikveh.
- Exodus 40:13
וְהִלְבַּשְׁתָּ אֶת־אַהֲרֹן אֵת בִּגְדֵי הַקֹּדֶשׁ וּמָשַׁחְתָּ אֹתוֹ וְקִדַּשְׁתָּ אֹתוֹ וְכִהֵן לִי׃
Put the sacral vestments on Aaron, and anoint him and consecrate him, that he may serve Me as priest.
Targum Onkelos
וְתַלְבֵּישׁ יָת אַהֲרֹן יָת לְבוּשֵׁי קוּדְשָׁא וּתְרַבֵּי יָתֵיהּ וּתְקַדֵּישׁ יָתֵיהּ וִישַׁמֵּישׁ קֳדָמָי׃
Clothe Aharon with the sacred garments. Anoint him and sanctify him so that he may serve as a kohein to [before] Me.
- Exodus 40:14
וְאֶת־בָּנָיו תַּקְרִיב וְהִלְבַּשְׁתָּ אֹתָם כֻּתֳּנֹת׃
Then bring his sons forward, put tunics on them,
Targum Onkelos
וְיָת בְּנוֹהִי תְקָרֵיב וְתַלְבֵּישׁ יָתְהוֹן כִּתּוּנִין׃
Bring his sons and clothe them with undershirts.
- Exodus 40:15
וּמָשַׁחְתָּ אֹתָם כַּאֲשֶׁר מָשַׁחְתָּ אֶת־אֲבִיהֶם וְכִהֲנוּ לִי וְהָיְתָה לִהְיֹת לָהֶם מׇשְׁחָתָם לִכְהֻנַּת עוֹלָם לְדֹרֹתָם׃
and anoint them as you have anointed their father, that they may serve Me as priests. This their anointing shall serve them for everlasting priesthood throughout the ages.
Targum Onkelos
וּתְרַבֵּי יָתְהוֹן כְּמָא דְּרַבִּיתָא יָת אֲבוּהוֹן וִישַׁמְּשׁוּן קֳדָמָי וּתְהֵי לְמִהְוֵי לְהוֹן רְבוּתְהוֹן לִכְהוּנַּת עָלַם לְדָרֵיהוֹן׃
Anoint them as you anointed their father, so that they may serve as kohanim to [before] Me. This should be done so that their anointing will make them an eternal kehunah throughout their generations.”
- Exodus 40:16
וַיַּעַשׂ מֹשֶׁה כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהֹוָה אֹתוֹ כֵּן עָשָׂה׃
This Moses did; just as GOD had commanded him, so he did.
Targum Onkelos
וַעֲבַד מֹשֶׁה כְּכֹל דְּפַקֵּיד יְיָ יָתֵיהּ כֵּן עֲבַד׃
Moshe did according to all that Adonoy commanded him—so he did.
