- Numbers 4:21
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהֹוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃
GOD spoke to Moses:
Targum Onkelos
וּמַלֵּיל יְיָ עִם מֹשֶׁה לְמֵימַר׃
And Adonoy spoke to Moshe, saying;
- Numbers 4:22
נָשֹׂא אֶת־רֹאשׁ בְּנֵי גֵרְשׁוֹן גַּם־הֵם לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם׃
Take a census of the Gershonites also, by their ancestral house and by their clans.
Targum Onkelos
קַבֵּיל יָת חוּשְׁבַּן בְּנֵי גֵרְשׁוֹן אַף אִנּוּן לְבֵית אֲבָהָתְהוֹן לְזַרְעֲיָתְהוֹן׃
Take the count of the sons of Gershon as well, according to the house of their fathers according to their families.

מִבֶּן שְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה וָמַעְלָה עַד בֶּן־חֲמִשִּׁים שָׁנָה תִּפְקֹד אוֹתָם כׇּל־הַבָּא לִצְבֹא צָבָא לַעֲבֹד עֲבֹדָה בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד׃
Record them from the age of thirty years up to the age of fifty, all who are subject to service in the performance of tasks for the Tent of Meeting.
Targum Onkelos
מִבַּר תְּלָתִין שְׁנִין וּלְעֵילָא עַד בַּר חַמְשִׁין שְׁנִין תִּמְנֵי יָתְהוֹן כָּל דְּאָתֵי לְחַיָּלָא חֵילָא לְמִפְלַח פּוּלְחָנָא בְּמַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא׃
From thirty years and above, until fifty years, you shall count them; all those who enter the division to serve in the Tent of Meeting.

זֹאת עֲבֹדַת מִשְׁפְּחֹת הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּי לַעֲבֹד וּלְמַשָּׂא׃
These are the duties of the Gershonite clans as to labor and porterage:
Targum Onkelos
דֵּין פּוּלְחַן זַרְעֲיָת גֵּרְשׁוֹן לְמִפְלַח וּלְמִטַּל׃
This is the service of the families of the Gershonites to serve, and to carry.

וְנָשְׂאוּ אֶת־יְרִיעֹת הַמִּשְׁכָּן וְאֶת־אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד מִכְסֵהוּ וּמִכְסֵה הַתַּחַשׁ אֲשֶׁר־עָלָיו מִלְמָעְלָה וְאֶת־מָסַךְ פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד׃
they shall carry the cloths of the Tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting with its covering, the covering of dolphin skin that is on top of it, and the screen for the entrance of the Tent of Meeting;

וְיִטְּלוּן יָת יְרִיעָת מַשְׁכְּנָא וְיָת מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא חוּפָאֵיהּ וְחוּפָאָה דְּסָסְגוֹנָא דַּעֲלוֹהִי מִלְּעֵילָא וְיָת פְּרָסָא דִּתְרַע מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא׃
They shall carry the tapestries of the Mishkon and [of] the Tent of Meeting, its covering and the covering of tachash which is on top of it, and the screen for the entrance to the Tent of Meeting,

וְאֵת קַלְעֵי הֶחָצֵר וְאֶת־מָסַךְ ׀ פֶּתַח ׀ שַׁעַר הֶחָצֵר אֲשֶׁר עַל־הַמִּשְׁכָּן וְעַל־הַמִּזְבֵּחַ סָבִיב וְאֵת מֵיתְרֵיהֶם וְאֶת־כׇּל־כְּלֵי עֲבֹדָתָם וְאֵת כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר יֵעָשֶׂה לָהֶם וְעָבָדוּ׃
the hangings of the enclosure, the screen at the entrance of the gate of the enclosure that surrounds the Tabernacle, the cords thereof, and the altar, and all their service equipment and all their accessories; and they shall perform the service.

וְיָת סְרָדֵי דָּרְתָא וְיָת פְּרָסָא דְּמַעֲלַנָא דִּתְרַע דָּרְתָא דְּעַל מַשְׁכְּנָא וְעַל מַדְבְּחָא סְחוֹר סְחוֹר וְיָת אֲטוּנֵיהוֹן וְיָת כָּל מָנֵי פּוּלְחָנְהוֹן וְיָת כָּל דְּיִתְמְסַר לְהוֹן וְיִפְלְחוּן׃
the hanging [tapestries] of the courtyard, the screen for the entrance to the gate of the courtyard which are over the Mishkon and altar on all sides, their ropes and all of their service utensils and all that will be given [delivered] to them, and thus shall they serve.

עַל־פִּי אַהֲרֹן וּבָנָיו תִּהְיֶה כׇּל־עֲבֹדַת בְּנֵי הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּי לְכׇל־מַשָּׂאָם וּלְכֹל עֲבֹדָתָם וּפְקַדְתֶּם עֲלֵהֶם בְּמִשְׁמֶרֶת אֵת כׇּל־מַשָּׂאָם׃
All the duties of the Gershonites, all their porterage and all their service, shall be performed on orders from Aaron and his sons; you shall make them responsible for attending to all their porterage.
Targum Onkelos
עַל מֵימַר אַהֲרֹן וּבְנוֹהִי יְהֵי כָּל פּוּלְחַן בְּנֵי גֵּרְשׁוֹן לְכָל מַטוּלְהוֹן וּלְכֹל פּוּלְחָנְהוֹן וְתִמְנוֹן עֲלֵיהוֹן בְּמַטְּרָא יָת כָּל מַטוּלְהוֹן׃
By instruction of Aharon and [one of] his sons shall be all the services of the sons of the Gershonites for all that they carry and for all their service. You shall fix specified appointments for them for everything they carry.
- Numbers 4:28
זֹאת עֲבֹדַת מִשְׁפְּחֹת בְּנֵי הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּי בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וּמִשְׁמַרְתָּם בְּיַד אִיתָמָר בֶּן־אַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן׃
Those are the duties of the Gershonite clans for the Tent of Meeting; they shall attend to them under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.
Targum Onkelos
דֵּין פּוּלְחַן זַרְעֲיָת בְּנֵי גֵּרְשׁוֹן בְּמַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא וּמַטַּרְתְּהוֹן בִּידָא דְּאִיתָמָר בַּר אַהֲרֹן כָּהֲנָא׃
This is the service of the families of the sons of the Gershonites in the Tent of Meeting. Their guardianship is in the hands of Isamar, the son of Aharon the kohein.

בְּנֵי מְרָרִי לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם לְבֵית־אֲבֹתָם תִּפְקֹד אֹתָם׃
As for the Merarites, you shall record them by the clans of their ancestral house;

בְּנֵי מְרָרִי לְזַרְעֲיָתְהוֹן לְבֵית אֲבָהָתְהוֹן תִּמְנֵי יָתְהוֹן׃
The sons of Merori, according to their families and according to the house of their fathers you shall count them.

מִבֶּן שְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה וָמַעְלָה וְעַד בֶּן־חֲמִשִּׁים שָׁנָה תִּפְקְדֵם כׇּל־הַבָּא לַצָּבָא לַעֲבֹד אֶת־עֲבֹדַת אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד׃
you shall record them from the age of thirty years up to the age of fifty, all who are subject to service in the performance of the duties for the Tent of Meeting.

מִבַּר תְּלָתִין שְׁנִין וּלְעֵילָא וְעַד בַּר חַמְשִׁין שְׁנִין תִּמְנֵינוּן כָּל דְּאָתֵי לְחֵילָא לְמִפְלַח יָת פּוּלְחַן מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא׃
From thirty years and above until fifty years, you shall count them; all who enter the division to serve in the Tent of Meeting.

וְזֹאת מִשְׁמֶרֶת מַשָּׂאָם לְכׇל־עֲבֹדָתָם בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד קַרְשֵׁי הַמִּשְׁכָּן וּבְרִיחָיו וְעַמּוּדָיו וַאֲדָנָיו׃
These are their porterage tasks in connection with their various duties for the Tent of Meeting: the planks, the bars, the posts, and the sockets of the Tabernacle;

וְדָא מַטְּרַת מַטוּלְהוֹן לְכָל פּוּלְחָנְהוֹן בְּמַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא דַּפֵּי מַשְׁכְּנָא וְעָבְרוֹהִי וְעַמּוּדוֹהִי וְסָמְכוֹהִי׃
This is what they are entrusted to carry according to all their duties in the Tent of Meeting; the beams of the Mishkon, its bars, pillars and sockets.

וְעַמּוּדֵי הֶחָצֵר סָבִיב וְאַדְנֵיהֶם וִיתֵדֹתָם וּמֵיתְרֵיהֶם לְכׇל־כְּלֵיהֶם וּלְכֹל עֲבֹדָתָם וּבְשֵׁמֹת תִּפְקְדוּ אֶת־כְּלֵי מִשְׁמֶרֶת מַשָּׂאָם׃
the posts around the enclosure and their sockets, pegs, and cords—all these furnishings and their service: you shall list by name the objects that are their porterage tasks.

וְעַמּוּדֵי דָּרְתָא סְחוֹר סְחוֹר וְסָמְכֵיהוֹן וְסִכֵּיהוֹן וַאֲטוּנֵיהוֹן לְכָל מָנֵיהוֹן וּלְכֹל פּוּלְחָנְהוֹן וּבִשְׁמָהָן תִּמְנוֹן יָת מָנֵי מַטְּרַת מַטוּלְהוֹן׃
The pillars around the courtyard, their sockets, stakes and ropes; with all their utensils and for all their service; and by name shall you appoint the utensils to the charge of those who will carry them.

זֹאת עֲבֹדַת מִשְׁפְּחֹת בְּנֵי מְרָרִי לְכׇל־עֲבֹדָתָם בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד בְּיַד אִיתָמָר בֶּן־אַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן׃
Those are the duties of the Merarite clans, pertaining to their various duties in the Tent of Meeting under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.

So Moses, Aaron, and the chieftains of the community recorded the Kohathites by the clans of their ancestral house,

וּמְנָא מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן וְרַבְרְבֵי כְּנִשְׁתָּא יָת בְּנֵי קְהָת לְזַרְעֲיָתְהוֹן וּלְבֵית אֲבָהָתְהוֹן׃
They counted—Moshe, Aharon and the leaders of the congregation—the sons of the Kehosites according to their families and according to the house of their fathers.

מִבֶּן שְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה וָמַעְלָה וְעַד בֶּן־חֲמִשִּׁים שָׁנָה כׇּל־הַבָּא לַצָּבָא לַעֲבֹדָה בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד׃
from the age of thirty years up to the age of fifty, all who were subject to service for work relating to the Tent of Meeting.
Targum Onkelos
מִבַּר תְּלָתִין שְׁנִין וּלְעֵילָא וְעַד בַּר חַמְשִׁין שְׁנִין כָּל דְּאָתֵי לְחֵילָא לְפוּלְחָנָא בְּמַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא׃
Those, from thirty years and above, until fifty years; all those who enter the division to serve in the Tent of Meeting.

וַיִּהְיוּ פְקֻדֵיהֶם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם אַלְפַּיִם שְׁבַע מֵאוֹת וַחֲמִשִּׁים׃
Those recorded by their clans came to 2,750.
Targum Onkelos
וַהֲווֹ מִנְיָנֵיהוֹן לְזַרְעֲיָתְהוֹן תְּרֵין אַלְפִין שְׁבַע מְאָה וְחַמְשִׁין׃
Their numbers, according to their families were two thousand seven hundred and fifty.
- Numbers 4:37
אֵלֶּה פְקוּדֵי מִשְׁפְּחֹת הַקְּהָתִי כׇּל־הָעֹבֵד בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד אֲשֶׁר פָּקַד מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן עַל־פִּי יְהֹוָה בְּיַד־מֹשֶׁה׃
That was the enrollment of the Kohathite clans, all those who performed duties relating to the Tent of Meeting, whom Moses and Aaron recorded at GOD’s command through Moses.
Targum Onkelos
אִלֵּין מִנְיָנֵי זַרְעֲיָת קְהָת כָּל דְּפָלַח בְּמַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא דִּמְנָא מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן עַל מֵימְרָא דַּייָ בִּידָא דְּמֹשֶׁה׃
These are the numbers of the families of the Kehosites of all who serve in the Tent of Meeting whom Moshe and Aharon counted according to the word of Adonoy, through Moshe.
