- Numbers 18:21
And to the Levites I hereby give all the tithes in Israel as their share in return for the services that they perform, the services of the Tent of Meeting.
Targum Onkelos
Behold, I have given to the sons of Levi all the tithes in Israel for an inheritance in return for their service which they perform—the service of the Tent of Meeting.
- Numbers 18:22
Henceforth, Israelites shall not trespass on the Tent of Meeting, and thus incur guilt and die:
Targum Onkelos
Bnei Yisroel shall no longer approach the Tent of Meeting, to become guilty and die.
- Numbers 18:23
only Levites shall perform the services of the Tent of Meeting; others would incur guilt. It is the law for all time throughout the ages. But they shall have no territorial share among the Israelites;
Targum Onkelos
The Levi[tes]—[they] shall perform the service of the Tent of Meeting and they will bear their guilt; it is an everlasting decree—throughout your generations—among Bnei Yisroel they (the Levites) shall have no inheritance.
- Numbers 18:24
for it is the tithes set aside by the Israelites as a gift to GOD that I give to the Levites as their share. Therefore I have said concerning them: They shall have no territorial share among the Israelites.
Targum Onkelos
For the tithe of Bnei Yisroel which they must set aside to [before] Adonoy as a terumah-gift I gave to the Levites as an inheritance; therefore, I told them: ‘among Bnei Yisroel they shall have no inheritance.’”
- Numbers 18:25
GOD spoke to Moses, saying:
Targum Onkelos
Adonoy spoke to Moshe, saying:
- Numbers 18:26
Speak to the Levites and say to them: When you receive from the Israelites their tithes, which I have assigned to you as your share, you shall set aside from them one-tenth of the tithe as a gift to GOD.
Targum Onkelos
“Speak to the Levites and say to them: ‘When you take the tithe from Bnei Yisroel, which I gave you from them for your inheritance, set aside from it the terumah-gift of [separation before] Adonoy, a tithe of the tithe.
- Numbers 18:27
This shall be accounted to you as your gift. As with the new grain from the threshing floor or the flow from the vat,
Targum Onkelos
Your terumah-gift [separation] will be considered the same as grain from the granary and [wine and oil of] fully ripened fruit from the cistern.
- Numbers 18:28
so shall you on your part set aside a gift for GOD from all the tithes that you receive from the Israelites; and from them you shall bring the gift for GOD to Aaron the priest.
Targum Onkelos
So must you, too, set aside the terumah-gift of Adonoy from all your tithes which you take from Bnei Yisroel; give from them the terumah-gift of [separation before] Adonoy to Aharon the kohein.
- Numbers 18:29
You shall set aside all gifts due to GOD from everything that is donated to you, from each thing its best portion, the part thereof that is to be consecrated.
Targum Onkelos
From all your gifts you must set aside all of the terumah-gifts [separations] of Adonoy; from each thing—its finest part—the part that is to be consecrated.’
- Numbers 18:30
Say to them further: When you have removed the best part from it, you Levites may consider it the same as the yield of threshing floor or vat.
Targum Onkelos
Say to them: ‘When you set aside the finest part of it, it will be considered for the Levites like the produce of the granary and the produce of the cistern.
- Numbers 18:31
You and your households may eat it anywhere, for it is your recompense for your services in the Tent of Meeting.
Targum Onkelos
You may consume it anywhere—you and [the members of] your household; since it is the reward for your service in the Tent of Meeting.
- Numbers 18:32
You will incur no guilt through it, once you have removed the best part from it; but you must not profane the sacred donations of the Israelites, lest you die.
Targum Onkelos
You will not bear a sin because of it, when you separate its best part; but sacred things of Bnei Yisroel you must not profane, and you will not die.”’
