  1. Deuteronomy 1:22

Then all of you came to me and said, “Let us send agents ahead to reconnoiter the land for us and bring back word on the route we shall follow and the cities we shall come to.”

    Targum Onkelos

You approached me, all of you, and said, ‘‘Let us send men ahead of us to spy out the land for us, and let them bring back word to us: the route we are to go up on and the cities we will be coming to.’’

  2. Deuteronomy 1:23

I approved of the plan, and so I selected twelve of you, one representative from each tribe.

    Targum Onkelos

The idea pleased me, so I took from you twelve men, one man per tribe.

  3. Deuteronomy 1:24

They made for the hill country, came to the wadi Eshcol, and spied it out.

    Targum Onkelos

They turned and went uphill and arrived at Wadi Eshkol, and they spied it out.

  4. Deuteronomy 1:25

They took some of the fruit of the land with them and brought it down to us. And they gave us this report: “It is a good land that the ETERNAL our God is giving to us.”

    Targum Onkelos

They took in their hand some fruit of the land and brought [it] down to us. They brought back word to us and said, ‘‘Good is the land that Adonoy, our God, is giving us.’’

  6. Deuteronomy 1:27

You sulked in your tents and said, “It is out of hatred for us that GOD brought us out of the land of Egypt, to hand us over to the Amorites to wipe us out.

    Targum Onkelos

  7. Deuteronomy 1:28

What kind of place are we going to? Our brothers have taken the heart out of us, saying, ‘We saw there a people stronger and taller than we, large cities with walls sky-high, and even Anakites.’”

    Targum Onkelos

    לְאָן אֲנַחְנָא סָלְקִין אֲחַנָא תְּבַרוּ יָת לִבַּנָא לְמֵימַר עַם רַב וְתַקִּיף מִנַּנָא קִרְוִין רַבְרְבָן וּכְרִיכָן עַד צֵית שְׁמַיָּא וְאַף בְּנֵי גִּבָּרָא חֲזֵינָא תַּמָּן׃

    Targum Onkelos

    יְיָ אֱלָהֲכוֹן דִּמְדַבַּר קֳדָמֵיכוֹן מֵימְרֵיהּ יְגִיחַ לְכוֹן כְּכֹל דַּעֲבַד עִמְּכוֹן בְּמִצְרַיִם לְעֵינֵיכוֹן׃

    Adonoy, your God, who goes before you [leads you], He will wage war for you, as in everything that He did with you in Egypt before your eyes;

  10. Deuteronomy 1:31

and in the wilderness, where you saw how the ETERNAL your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you traveled until you came to this place.

    Targum Onkelos

    Targum Onkelos

  13. Deuteronomy 1:34
