- Numbers 8:1
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהֹוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃
GOD spoke to Moses, saying:
Targum Onkelos
וּמַלֵּיל יְיָ עִם מֹשֶׁה לְמֵימַר׃
And Adonoy spoke to Moshe, saying;
- Numbers 8:2
דַּבֵּר אֶל־אַהֲרֹן וְאָמַרְתָּ אֵלָיו בְּהַעֲלֹתְךָ אֶת־הַנֵּרֹת אֶל־מוּל פְּנֵי הַמְּנוֹרָה יָאִירוּ שִׁבְעַת הַנֵּרוֹת׃
Speak to Aaron and say to him, “When you mount the lamps, let the seven lamps give light at the front of the lampstand.”
Targum Onkelos
מַלֵּיל עִם אַהֲרֹן וְתֵימַר לֵיהּ בְּאַדְלָקוּתָךְ יָת בּוֹצִינַיָּא לָקֳבֵיל אַפֵּי מְנָרְתָא יְהוֹן מְנָהֲרִין שִׁבְעָא בוֹצִינַיָּא׃
Speak to Aharon, and say to him; When you light the lamps towards the face of the Menorah shall the seven lamps cast [their] light.
- Numbers 8:3
וַיַּעַשׂ כֵּן אַהֲרֹן אֶל־מוּל פְּנֵי הַמְּנוֹרָה הֶעֱלָה נֵרֹתֶיהָ כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהֹוָה אֶת־מֹשֶׁה׃
Aaron did so; he mounted the lamps at the front of the lampstand, as GOD had commanded Moses.—
Targum Onkelos
וַעֲבַד כֵּן אַהֲרֹן לָקֳבֵיל אַפֵּי מְנָרְתָא אַדְלֵיק בּוֹצִינַהָא כְּמָא דְּפַקֵּיד יְיָ יָת מֹשֶׁה׃
Aharon did so; towards the face of the Menorah he lit its lamps, just as Adonoy commanded Moshe.
- Numbers 8:4
וְזֶה מַעֲשֵׂה הַמְּנֹרָה מִקְשָׁה זָהָב עַד־יְרֵכָהּ עַד־פִּרְחָהּ מִקְשָׁה הִוא כַּמַּרְאֶה אֲשֶׁר הֶרְאָה יְהֹוָה אֶת־מֹשֶׁה כֵּן עָשָׂה אֶת־הַמְּנֹרָה׃
Now this is how the lampstand was made: it was hammered work of gold, hammered from base to petal. According to the pattern that GOD had shown Moses, so was the lampstand made.
Targum Onkelos
וְדֵין עוֹבָד מְנָרְתָא נְגִידָא דְּהַב עַד שִׁדַּהּ עַד שׁוֹשַׁנַּהּ נְגִידָא הִיא כְּחֶזְוָא דְּאַחְזִי יְיָ יָת מֹשֶׁה כֵּן עֲבַד יָת מְנָרְתָא׃
This is how the Menorah was made; beaten from [a block of] gold, from its base until its flowers it is beaten out [of a solid block], according to the vision which Adonoy showed to Moshe, so he made the Menorah.
- Numbers 8:5
וַיְדַבֵּר יְהֹוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃
GOD spoke to Moses, saying:
Targum Onkelos
וּמַלֵּיל יְיָ עִם מֹשֶׁה לְמֵימַר׃
Adonoy spoke to Moshe, saying;
- Numbers 8:6
קַח אֶת־הַלְוִיִּם מִתּוֹךְ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְטִהַרְתָּ אֹתָם׃
Take the Levites from among the Israelites and purify them.
Targum Onkelos
קָרֵיב יָת לֵיוָאֵי מִגּוֹ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וּתְדַכֵּי יָתְהוֹן׃
Take [bring near] the Levites from among Bnei Yisroel and purify them.
- Numbers 8:7
וְכֹה־תַעֲשֶׂה לָהֶם לְטַהֲרָם הַזֵּה עֲלֵיהֶם מֵי חַטָּאת וְהֶעֱבִירוּ תַעַר עַל־כׇּל־בְּשָׂרָם וְכִבְּסוּ בִגְדֵיהֶם וְהִטֶּהָרוּ׃
This is what you shall do to them to purify them: sprinkle on them water of purification, and let them each go over their whole body with a razor, and wash their clothes; thus they shall be purified.
Targum Onkelos
וּכְדֵין תַּעֲבֵיד לְהוֹן לְדַכּוֹאֵיהוֹן אַדִּי עֲלֵיהוֹן מַיָּא דְּחַטָּתָא וְיַעְבְּרוּן מַסְפַּר עַל כָּל בִּשְׂרְהוֹן וִיחַוְּרוּן לְבוּשֵׁיהוֹן וְיִדְכּוֹן׃
This is what you shall do to them, to purify them; sprinkle them with the sin-offering waters, and cause a razor to pass over (shave) their entire bodies, and they shall wash their garments and purify themselves.
- Numbers 8:8
וְלָקְחוּ פַּר בֶּן־בָּקָר וּמִנְחָתוֹ סֹלֶת בְּלוּלָה בַשָּׁמֶן וּפַר־שֵׁנִי בֶן־בָּקָר תִּקַּח לְחַטָּאת׃
Let them take a bull of the herd, and with it a grain offering of choice flour with oil mixed in, and you take a second bull of the herd for a purgation offering.
Targum Onkelos
וְיִסְּבוּן תּוֹר בַּר תּוֹרֵי וּמִנְחָתֵיהּ סוּלְתָּא דְּפִילָא בִמְשַׁח וְתוֹר תִּנְיָן בַּר תּוֹרֵי תִּסַּב לְחַטָּתָא׃
They should take a young bullock and its meal-offering of flour mixed with oil, and you shall take a second young bullock, for a sin-offering.
- Numbers 8:9
וְהִקְרַבְתָּ אֶת־הַלְוִיִּם לִפְנֵי אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וְהִקְהַלְתָּ אֶת־כׇּל־עֲדַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃
You shall bring the Levites forward before the Tent of Meeting. Assemble the whole Israelite community,
Targum Onkelos
וּתְקָרֵיב יָת לֵיוָאֵי קֳדָם מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא וְתִכְנוֹשׁ יָת כָּל כְּנִשְׁתָּא דִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃
You shall bring the Levites near, before the Tent of Meeting, and you shall gather the entire congregation of Bnei Yisroel.
- Numbers 8:10
וְהִקְרַבְתָּ אֶת־הַלְוִיִּם לִפְנֵי יְהֹוָה וְסָמְכוּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־יְדֵיהֶם עַל־הַלְוִיִּם׃
and bring the Levites forward before GOD. Let the Israelites lay their hands upon the Levites,
Targum Onkelos
וּתְקָרֵיב יָת לֵיוָאֵי קֳדָם יְיָ וְיִסְמְכוּן בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל יָת יְדֵיהוֹן עַל לֵיוָאֵי׃
You shall bring the Levites near, before Adonoy, and Bnei Yisroel shall lay their hands on the Levites.
- Numbers 8:11
וְהֵנִיף אַהֲרֹן אֶת־הַלְוִיִּם תְּנוּפָה לִפְנֵי יְהֹוָה מֵאֵת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְהָיוּ לַעֲבֹד אֶת־עֲבֹדַת יְהֹוָה׃
and let Aaron designate the Levites before GOD as an elevation offering from the Israelites, that they may perform the service of GOD.
Targum Onkelos
וִירִים אַהֲרֹן יָת לֵיוָאֵי אֲרָמָא קֳדָם יְיָ מִן בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וִיהוֹן לְמִפְלַח יָת פּוּלְחָנָא דַּייָ׃
Aharon shall wave the Levites as a wave-offering before Adonoy from Bnei Yisroel and they will be [entrusted] to do the worship of Adonoy.
- Numbers 8:12
וְהַלְוִיִּם יִסְמְכוּ אֶת־יְדֵיהֶם עַל רֹאשׁ הַפָּרִים וַעֲשֵׂה אֶת־הָאֶחָד חַטָּאת וְאֶת־הָאֶחָד עֹלָה לַיהֹוָה לְכַפֵּר עַל־הַלְוִיִּם׃
The Levites shall now lay their hands upon the heads of the bulls; one shall be offered to GOD as a purgation offering and the other as a burnt offering, to make expiation for the Levites.
Targum Onkelos
וְלֵיוָאֵי יִסְמְכוּן יָת יְדֵיהוֹן עַל רֵישׁ תּוֹרַיָּא וַעֲבֵיד יָת חַד חַטָּתָא וְיָת חַד עֲלָתָא קֳדָם יְיָ לְכַפָּרָא עַל לֵיוָאֵי׃
The Levites shall lay their hands on the head of the bulls and make the one for a sin-offering and the [other] one for a burnt-offering to Adonoy, to atone for the Levites.
- Numbers 8:13
וְהַעֲמַדְתָּ אֶת־הַלְוִיִּם לִפְנֵי אַהֲרֹן וְלִפְנֵי בָנָיו וְהֵנַפְתָּ אֹתָם תְּנוּפָה לַיהֹוָה׃
You shall place the Levites in attendance upon Aaron and his sons, and designate them as an elevation offering to GOD.
Targum Onkelos
וּתְקִים יָת לֵיוָאֵי קֳדָם אַהֲרֹן וּקְדָם בְּנוֹהִי וּתְרִים יָתְהוֹן אֲרָמָא קֳדָם יְיָ׃
You shall set the Levites before Aharon and before his sons, and lift them up as a wave-offering to Adonoy.
- Numbers 8:14
וְהִבְדַּלְתָּ אֶת־הַלְוִיִּם מִתּוֹךְ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְהָיוּ לִי הַלְוִיִּם׃
Thus you shall set the Levites apart from the Israelites, and the Levites shall be Mine.
Targum Onkelos
וְתַפְרֵישׁ יָת לֵיוָאֵי מִגּוֹ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וִיהוֹן מְשַׁמְּשִׁין קֳדָמַי לֵיוָאֵי׃
You shall separate the Levites from among Bnei Yisroel and the Levites shall be Mine [serve before Me].
