Have you ever made a mistake and thought, “I’ve already started, so I might as well keep going”?
In Parshat Vayeshev, Yosef is tempted by Potiphar’s wife, who repeatedly tries to convince him to do something wrong. The Talmud in Sotah asks why Yosef is considered someone who mastered his desires. After all, one opinion says that Yosef almost gave in, but then he saw a vision of his father and ran away. If he almost failed, how can he be considered a model of self-control?
The answer is that real strength is not about never struggling; it is about being able to stop and make the right choice. Yosef was able to pause, rethink what he was doing, and ask himself what G-d wanted him to do at that moment.
We can learn from Yosef that a mistake does not have to determine what happens next.
No matter what happened before, every moment gives us another chance to choose better.
