How often do we tell ourselves, “I’ll deal with that tomorrow”? We may postpone important spiritual goals because life feels too busy. But tomorrow arrives with its own distractions—and the cycle can continue for years.
The Torah says, “Today, Hashem your G-d commands you to perform these statutes” (Devarim 26:16). The emphasis on “today” reminds us that every day presents its own opportunities and responsibilities.
The Torah describes Avraham as having “come with his days” (Bereishit 24:1). The Zohar understands this as teaching that he lived each day fully, using his time for its intended purpose.
Pirkei Avot teaches, “Do not say, ‘When I am free I will study,’ for perhaps you will not become free” (Avot 2:4). The Kotzker Rebbe offered a powerful interpretation: perhaps the challenge is not to wait for pressure to disappear, but to find a way to grow spiritually even while under pressure.
We may not control how busy tomorrow will be. But we can choose what we do with today.
